Emma_B Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 ^Oh my God! Question: does "gardaÃ" mean police? How many "Irish" (not sure of proper name of language. Gaelic?) words are there in general use, are there many? Quote
NuttyNeighbour Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 It's been like a week since anyone posted... ... how about this for discussion... what do you think the rest of the board thinks of this thread and we who post in it? Quote
Cal Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 ^Oh my God! Question: does "gardaÃ" mean police? How many "Irish" (not sure of proper name of language. Personally, Im crap at Irish, I also live in an Irish speaking area! (Galway) The Irish language is the hardest language to learn, in my opinion. If you get a sentence in English and Translated it into Irish, it would come out backwards. I do Ordinary level Irish. I barely pass it. So, in other words, I suck! Hope that helped. Quote
Emma_B Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 It did. I never really realised that Irish was spoken so widely, I don't know why. I know Welsh is but never really twigged that Irish was. Which, given I'm supoosed to be a "linguist" and also an "intelligent person" is quite bad, really. I have never been to Ireland, I did have a trip booked but then I broke up with my boyfriend (who I was going with) so we cancelled it. I want to go, though, maybe next year. Quote

Just stay away from the west of Ireland! Its boring!! You should stay in CO.Wicklow (Garden Of Ireland - I used to live there!) or stay in Dublin if you are a Party Animal! I have to go now, see you soon : Quote
