Krazy Karl Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 A bit more on the podcast hey... Basically it will be a structured discussion about Home and Away... like a radio show. It will discuss the previous weeks episodes in both the UK and US, there will be a bunch of segments (like a history lesson, and probably a scene re-enactment... probably other things that will come later), and once we get going we'll have a voicemail segment (where people record a question and we answer it). It should be a heap of fun! Quote

MarMar Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Taken from a girl on my LJ-list: On February 20th, 2001 Tempest Smith committed suicide. She was 12 years old. She felt desperate and alone because of taunts from her classmates, who abused, teased, and bullied her for being a goth and showing an interest in the Wiccan religion. She hung herself from her bunk bed with a leopard-print scarf in the morning before school. Her journal revealed typical teenage problems--crushes, homework, etc. She referred to her mother as "the best mom in the world". However, there were other things not so typical in that journal... “He said some things to me. It all made my skin boil. Afterward, my head ached.” Her peers sang Christian hymns around her, saying "Jesus luvs u" and alienating her. Her teachers knew of the teasing, but did nothing to stop it. And so, on a chilly February morning, Tempest Smith hung herself. All because her classmates were ignorant about her personal choices. Her mother has since founded the Tempest Smith Foundation (Tempest Smith Foundayion). Please, whether you are Wiccan, Pagan, Christian, Muslim, Jew, I really don't care, on February 20th this year, please wear a black ribbon in honor of Tempest and in support of tolerance, religious and otherwise. This sort of thing cannot be allowed to continue--ESPECIALLY in a country [the US] where all are equal and to be respected. I remember reading the news of Tempest's death a few days afterwards in 2001. Her story lingers with me still. I don't expects any of you to wear a black ribbon, but it might be worth a shot to hope that some of you will read up a little bit about Tempest Smith, Wicca/Paganism etc. You can find some articles about her by following this link.
