You know, I've got this odd feeling that Ricky had her ovaries removed, which kind of scuppers my big idea.I checked the episode where she had the surgery and there was no mention of it but I still have a feeling it was mentioned later... If so, she had an egg frozen at some point! I loved the idea too much not to use it.

Y'know, I did actually think this. She had a full hysterectomy so she would have had her ovaries removed too (I think), but they could possibly have harvested eggs? Maybe? Not an impossibility :) And you're right. It's too nice an idea not to do it!

We interrupt this fan fiction to bring you this edition of Film 2017:

I think the honest answer is I liked it but didn't love it. I guess there's always a problem with translating a television series to film, that you need a tighter focus, but Dance Academy was an ensemble series and the film...wasn't. It felt like for at least the first two thirds, the other characters basically took it in turns to hang out with Tara.We rarely got two of the others in the same scene and it wasn't until right near the end that the gang was finally back together.Among other things, it meant we had to wait till practically the last half hour to get some decent Tara/Abigail interaction, which was a shame because her "Like a cockroach that you can't squash" was probably the line of the film...although ultimately her traditional pep-talks ended up being fairly meaningless in storyline terms. They seemed to set up the two of them living together near the start and then literally did nothing with it.

I started off really liking that the film had acknowledged that Tara and Christian's relationship would have moved on by now...but then they break up, because we haven't seen that enough times, and he disappears for a huge chunk of the film, and their reunion wasn't quite the triumphal moment it should have been, partly because we've seen it so many times, partly because it was mixed up in a rather uneven last reel.

Nic Westaway seemed to get an undue prominence on the DVD cover for what felt like maybe ten minutes of screen time.At least he got to show off his singing, although his American accent seemed to disappear when he did it.(His comment about wanting to be a Hemshaw has to be an in-joke.)Did we mention David Woodley as Miss Raine's maybe-husband?Because he was there.(Tara Morice once April and Bianca's mum, of course.)And you know something?I kind of missed Grace. Not hugely but when we found out Ben was staying with Miss Raine it felt glaring not to mention their connection through her. I did wonder if we might sneak a picture of some of the absent cast in the photo montage at the start but no sign.I also wondered if they'd actually kill Ben, but I guess that would have been a bit Greatest Hits.

I think the real problem though is I've no idea how I feel about the ending and whether I like it not.I think it was a brave move to showcase Tara's less likable aspects, with her being single-minded and self-absorbed at times.

It did kind of feel like the film ended where it should have begun, with the gang back together and running their own company and academy out of Sammy's memorial theatre.(I think. It was a big vague.)So if they do do a sequel with that premise, I think it could be a success.

Sorry, I'm being horribly negative so I'll say what I liked. Some of the stuff at the hospital, especially the Tara/Kat hug and Ollie draping what I think was Sammy's old cardigan around Tara's shoulders. Some electric Tara/Abigail scenes with Abigail having long since moved on from her resentment of Tara's talent, and a nice role reversal of Tara becoming Abigail's director by the end.A few decent stabs at showing the Tara/Christian bond, notably them recreating Ric and Matilda's last reunion from HA.Kat being deeply flawed and a bit messed up but struggling through anyhow, and Tara's bizarre enthusiasm on seeing an advert for her show. And some good dance sequences. It was nice to catch up on all most of the characters and there could be an interesting future ahead of them.

Oh well, Season 3 of mini-Neighbours reunion Reign up next!

Must admit that I can see a lot of the flaws etc that you're talking about ..... and its kinda funny that I saw a recent news piece online last night about the possibility of a live action ROBOTECH film, which, its like, how do you transfer all of its sprawling saga to a 2 hour movie ......

but yeah, must admit that I really, not surprisingly, thought that i'd never see Abigail again. So that i'm thankful for, cos LOVE her .....

and whilst I would have loved to see more of Abigail/Dena Kaplan, the film, more so even than the show, was all about Tara ......which we knew it would be cos DA is all about the show's creator living vicariously through Tara.

Films, shows are all about moments for me, and seeing Abigail again, especially in the Tara chore'd dance sequence towords the end, was just too beautiful !!!

I hope I didn't spoil it for you too much, since I know how enthusiastic you were about it! I guess possibly, since I only saw Season 3 for the first time last year, I hadn't had quite such a long wait and so I was perhaps more interested in what they did with the characters rather than in just seeing them again.I agree there were some good moments in there and, while it didn't have anything like the emotional punch that the dance sequences at the ends of Seasons 2 and 3 had, that final dance sequence with them all more or less together at last was quite enjoyable.

I’m not really affected whether you didn't like the film as much as me. Would have been good if you did – but only cos it would have made the film better for you, if that makes sense. Its like, a critic not liking a film that I REALLY want to see won’t stop me from seeing it …recent example – I heard terrible things about Transformers – Last Knight, and whilst I agree that the criticisms are very valid, I still REALLY enjoyed it ….bonus of Jemma Chan [from Brit TV series HUMANS] in a cooool cameo.

Okay, good! I don't know when I'm going to get to see The Last Knight, probably have to wait for it to turn up on television over here which will be years, but I watched Age of Extinction last year and really loved it. I found the earlier films in the series flawed if enjoyable: The first one took an age to get going, the second one was very poorly constructed, the third one was better but still thought we were more interested in a bunch of squishies falling out of a building than what the Autobots were doing. I thought with AoE Michael Bay has finally worked out that we watch Transformers film to see the Transformers, not a bunch of American Pie rejects eating hash brownies. Not so sure about the news Epps is back, since I thought AoE did a good job of finally ditching the "US military save the day while Autobots stand around and watch" idea, but I think by now the critics just think they can get an easy ride by just trashing Transformers films.

I actually wasn't so keen on AoE, but even that had some great moments …. Especially seeing Optimus as a flat nose briefly at the start, and when we discovered Drift is a triple changer [as pre the movie, I’d only seen pics etc of him as Bugatti Veyron ….was coooool to see him also transform into an attack helicopter]. Dark of the Moon is probably my fave so far, but most of that was cos of when Autobots returned after being supposedly killed .,…..you knew they hadn’t, because you can’t permanently kill Optimus, but that didn’t stop the moment they did form being cool, AND it reminded me of [and could have been inspired by] when the Autobots faked being killed in the orig animated series by making it look like their ship had collided with the sun – after the Decepticons framed them for something. Dark of the Moon also has 3 Autobots who transform into NASCARs – one of whom we see occasionally in Last Knight .,….. in which I also like the different take on the Arthurian/Excalibur/Merlin legend.

Yeah, Dark of the Moon's pretty good.It gets another awesome Optimus Prime moment when the Autobots return ("Perhaps now you understand. The Decepticons will never leave you alone. We will kill them all."), which almost gets topped with his pre-mortem exchange with Megatron ("What would you be without me?"/"Let's find out").I think it still had a few designs problems though (I struggled to tell the Decepticons apart, with Starscream being very generic) and more overly puerile "comedy" moments. My main frustration was when they spend ages following a bunch of characters I don't care about during the final battle, then reveal Bumblebee and Wheeljack got captured off screen and have Wheeljack's head blown off out of nowhere.

Megatron's Master Plan? A friend had that on video at the time, I think we watched it every week for months. Can probably still quote most of it.("Just give the word, Prime, and..."/"The word, Ironhide, is surrender.")

(Sorry, everyone else, I'll get back to posting chapters eventually.)
