It was a shame that Ailsa's death was poorly executed.

I have considered over the years how else she could have left and I don't know how she could have left without dying though.  She and Alf came close before to splitting up, eg. 1999 that I don't know what another way would have been for them to realistically split up.

I don't think that Alf would have got a divorce - he was of the generation when you got married for life and he would have done what he had to make his marriage work. She pretty much had to die. Maybe she could have had a better death.

There was no option other than to have Ailsa die.  She wouldn't realistically have left Alf.

Likewise when Ray calls it quits, they will have no option but to have Alf die.  It's inconceivable that he would leave the bay.
