It's a pity Marilyn didn't go to Bobby's funeral. I noticed that amiss even back in 1993!

That's been a problem from day one though - Lynn, Frank and even Floss and Neville didn't attend Tom's funeral in 1990.

I always thought writers can get away with these things (or the most important attendees at least anyway!), by saying things like "It's a shame X had to rush off straight away" or "it was good to see X" etc, but not show the character onscreen.

Bobby and Marilyn was another good one, despite their very different personalities.

Do you think the Marilyn/Don pairing would have happened had Bobby still been around in 1996? And how would that have changed the dynamic between Bobby and Marilyn if it did?

True. When you think of the funerals of major characters, the list of people you think should've been there but weren't is quite long. Acknowledging them in some way would've added a bit of depth to it.

I'm one of those people who wish they hadn't paired up. It always seemed wrong to me. I wish Donald had gone to Timboon in search of Patricia and brought her back to Summer Bay. I'm not sure why they paired Marilyn and Donald up. Was it because Bobby was gone and Don needed another woman to bounce off?

If Bobby hadn't died and was around for Donald/Marilyn getting together, I think that would have made for great TV. It would've affected their friendship and also changed Bobby's relationship with her father. I think sparks would've flown.

Good point.

Not much compensation but at least Lynn turned up to see Christopher when he was born...I think Frank not attending Tom's funeral didnt make sense at all considering he was Toms first foster child, and had been with Tom and Pippa the longest.

Carly didn't attend Bobby's second wedding or her funeral but she turned up for Steves wedding(I dont know if it happened or not) . Steve didnt turn up for DebPips wedding to Michael.  I think if the filming schedule was inappropriate for the actors, the producers could've easily written in what you suggested, the mentioning of the characters without them being on screen.

I just wish the producers had done a better job of preserving the original Fletcher family in one way or another since they were really the focal point of the series from the beginning. Based on what I have read, I get the impression that the producers just wanted to phase out the older characters and have them be a distant memory.
