girlsrulz44 Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 from the h&a site Det Peter Baker Played by Nicholas Bishop About the character Actor biography Det. Peter Baker returns to Summer Bay after having left to live in the city a year ago. His relationship with his partner Clare has broken up and he is single again. Peter is the brother of Dan Baker and when he decided he wanted to become a policeman, was regarded as the black sheep of his family. His parents had wanted Peter to work on the land as they had, and were unreasonably hard on him, disowning him for several years. They felt that Peter had rejected them and their way of life to go to the city. However, Dan has kept in touch with his brother over the years. Peter was posted to Summer Bay and was involved in the search for 'The Stalker'. He was attacked and seriously injured, and lay in a coma in hospital for three months. His long-lost brother Dan came to Summer Bay to visit him. Dan meets Leah, a friend of Peter’s who visits him in hospital. A friendship develops between Dan and Leah, and they fall in love. Dan later discovers that Peter, while in America, had been seeing Dan’s ex-wife Amanda. When Dan discovered this, he was devastated that his brother had been so disloyal, even though Amanda was his ex-wife. He later realized it was the manipulative Amanda at fault and he forgave his brother. Leah and Dan marry, although Peter is still in love with Leah. When he returns to Summer Bay he discovers that Leah’s marriage to Dan has broken up due to Dan’s compulsive gambling habit. Dan has moved out of their home, but he generously suggests that Peter stay there. Although Leah is expecting a baby, Peter becomes involved with Leah again and things become very awkward for Peter and Leah as Dan is unaware of this and tries to reconcile with Leah. Where will this triangle end? Peter also becomes obsessed about a particular case he is working on and acts very strangely. He is stalking someone, but why?
girlsrulz44 Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Nicholas Bishop Plays Det Peter Baker About the character Actor biography Born in England, Nick came to Australia with his parents when he was six months old. His father was a Colonel in the army and then a diplomat, which meant Nick and his family were constantly on the move. He has lived in Washington DC, Singapore, Canberra, Queensland and Adelaide. Nick did his schooling in Canberra, ACT. His older brother is in the army, but military life did not appeal. His creative personality is inherited from his mother who is an artist. Nick earned a place at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and completed his course there in 1996. His enthusiasm and passion for acting, he feels, won him a place there. His advice to aspiring young actors? "Do as many short courses as you can and go for as many auditions as possible...and don’t be afraid to take risks. Try anything they throw at you, even if it feels wrong! I tell that to my students." Nick has taught drama to students at NIDA for about the last eight years. "Because I went to nine or ten different schools, I had to learn to make new friends many times over. It’s made me able to assess people pretty quickly, and actually has been an asset in meeting new groups of people." Nick has played in nine NIDA productions and has played in the Shakespeare plays Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Merchant of Venice. He has starred in many films, notably playing the lead, David Radcliffe in Occasional Coarse Language; the lead Peter Jess in Powder Burn; Mick, the support lead in My Mother Frank and playing Mitchell Lawrence in The Sugar Factory. He has appeared in numerous television series: Heartbreak High, Above the Law, (where he played the lead, Matt Bridges), White Collar Blue, All Saints, Blue Heelers (playing guest lead) Water Rats, Wildside (where he played a detective) and others. Nick plays Detective Peter Baker in Home and Away and has appeared as a guest star almost 80 times since 2004. His character Peter, is single again and returns to Summer Bay to find his former love. Leah has separated from Dan, Peter’s brother. It’s confusing and awkward for Leah when Peter admits his love for her. "The character of Det. Peter Baker in Home and Away is rather complex", says Nick. "At the moment he’s hooked up on Leah, and that makes things difficult for his brother Dan, as Dan is trying to win her back. He also becomes rather obsessed about a particular case he is working on. Yes, Peter was the black sheep of the family because his parents didn’t want him to be a cop - they wanted him to work on the land as they had…but he wanted an independent life." Nick and his partner moved two years ago to live in the Northern Beaches area and love it there. Nick was born under the Zodiac sign of Virgo, the Virgin.
