The 'synopsis' for the finale mentions Marissa receiving an astounding proposal that could radically change her plans.. which doesn't really sound like something bad.

Thanks to Izzy at Spoilerfix.

I think with the OC, the main thrux of the show is two teenage couples who are "meant to be". Despite all the drama and hassle, at the end of it all Ryan and Marissa are soulmates. Of course they argue, they are a horrific couple, but they are still forever. I much prefer Sadie to Marissa, but she will never overcome the fact that those two have a permanent, undeniable connection.

Of course, it's not realistic but HELLO this is the OC. Ryan and Marissa are like Ross and Rachel - it has to happen in the end. If they kill her off, I think the show will lose part of it's soul.

100% agree. I wasn't the biggest fan of Dawson's Creek but I think the show could've still worked out without Joey. It would have gone downhill a bit but it still would have worked out. However, if Dawson left, then the show would be way different... it would be like... Creek.

Great thinking, Nathan!

EDIT: After reading through, I noticed that if I 100% agreed, then I wouldn't have disagreed with you on the Joey part. So I 50% agree :P

EDIT (again): I just noticed that I'm responding to a post claire_louise made on Page 32. I didn't realize there were another 4 pages. Sorry, I'm away with the fairies today :P

According to Izzy at Spoilerfix, Mischa Barton confirmed on Access Hollywood that Marissa dies! However, the cast and crew of The OC have been known to play practical jokes on the public (no doubt to boost finale ratings). The finale airs in just a few hours in the US, so we'll soon know the truth.

Season Finale details ahead.

Marissa dies in Ryan's arms after Volchok runs them off the road in his drunken state. It calls for flashbacks to season one as Ryan holds her in his arms, much like the OD in first season. Marissa was leaving to spend a year with her dad anyway.

At least, that's what I've managed to piece together about the final moments of the show.

I'm going to wallow in self pity, because now Ryan and Marissa love is no more. Thats the heart and the soul of the show gone for me. Even if it is me and me alone.
