emmasi
I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I've watched a couple of episodes here and there. I've always found that Seth was my favourite, with Ryan as a distant second. I love their relationship, how they're like strangers, and then friends, and then practically brothers, but there's still a distance between them at times that makes it feel like they've only just met. It's quite unique, so I like it when that's explored. The trick for me is not being attatched to anyone else in the show, so I don't care that Marissa died, and I won't care when Summer leaves. I don't even know Seth's mum's name... All I know is that I've liked the last couple of episodes and will continue watching for as long as there's nothing else on. Good old summer television. starrychris
OC won't be on this week due to taking a week break in the US. It's not necessarily ending for good. This season was always intended for 16 episodes. I will be surprised if it's not renewed for a 5th season. With the new US network CW I 'm pretty sure it will be renewed. Actually, The OC doesn't air on The CW. It airs on FOX. It used to be part of WB, but after they broke up they sold it to FOX, apparently. But, anyway, I hope it doesn't end. The main problem is that the day which The OC airs on is the same day that Greys Anatomy and CSI air, and they all are on at the same time. Basically that is what I see as the lack of audience. Greys and CSI are the states #1 and #2 most watched shows there. I know that The OC isn't on CW - becasue CW is a new network in the US that only started a couple months ago! It has saved the axing of shows such as Veronica Mars, Supernatural and Smallville already. Had this network not formed and picked up all these shows, they would have been axed. CW is a netowrk in the US aimed at a younger audience and isn't in it as much for ratings, but to keep shows with loyal fanbases on air. That's why I think if Fox drop The OC there is a good chance it will be picked up by CW.

I hope that happens, but I thought those shows you've mentioned were aired by UPN and WB which merged into The CW. When did they ever face being axed? I remember a rumour that Veronica Mars wasn't going to go for another 3rd season, but that was all a rumour. The rest I haven't heard of.
Drew
Amir, what you just said what I thought happened. Those shows that are now on CW were preivously on UPN or WB. When they merged some shows were axed and others stayed on. That's what I read just before the two networks merged when Charmed got the axe... That's what I always thought they were... starrychris
Yes a lot of the shows on CW are from UPN or WB but the network is not explicitly just taking shows from those networks. It is interested in airing/saving shows that are aimed at their specific target audience. If CW wasn't formed Veronica Mars most definitely would have been axed. bay girl
Same goes for One Tree Hill. If it wasn't for The CW, OTH would have been axed after the first season. The CW saved it.

I hardly think it's fair to say the CW saved Supernatural and Smallville, and they were going to be axed. Smallville was pulling in some of the WB's biggest numbers, and Supernatural had established itself as the WB's only new hit show in years. If anything, moving to the CW has been bad for them, with both their seasonal averages being down. You are right about Veronica Mars but.
Amir
Same goes for One Tree Hill. If it wasn't for The CW, OTH would have been axed after the first season. The CW saved it. How would that of happened? OTH is up to it's fourth season. The CW was only introduced this year.

I think OTH started off on another station and was going to get cancelled after it's first season. But then that station was shut down, so another station decided to pick it up so it wouldn't get cancelled. And then that station merged with the another one and became The CW. Apparently The C.W are a station who aren't in it for the ratings. They're in it to keep the younger fans happy. They've got all the shows that aren't doing that great, but are still popular with the younger audience.

I'm fairly sure that One Tree Hill has always been played on the WB until the formation of the CW network last year. I think there was talk of it being cancelled after its third season, but when the CW was forming many of futures of the shows from both networks were hazy, nothing was certain because of the two networks combining. 7th Heaven wasn't expected to have an 11th season but survived, Everwood was cancelled. Concerning The O.C, there has been speculation that the CW will pick it up if Fox cancels it, and because Fox is sticking to the 16 episodes they initially asked for, the chances of that are pretty good I'd say. Nothing will be confirmed for a while though, I don't think. I also think the actors might have a say in whether the show moves stations, because they might believe its run its course. Too many factors to consider.
