Dean, Ziggy, Mac, Tane, Nikau and Lyrik rarely step foot in the Diner whereas aside from the odd scene at Salt, Irene, Leah and Marilyn rarely step foot in the Surf Club.

That's a good point. I hadn't even really thought of it in terms of where characters physically go (other than the Diner crew who do spend a lot of time there), but thinking about it it does feel like that line from the show about the younger ones hanging out at the Surf Club is reflected in where we see our characters, too. The Diner used to be the absolute hub of the community for everyone, and the Surf Club was also a bustling if secondary presence. But now it feels like the Diner and its longstanding occupants just act as a kind of Greek chorus for whatever's going on with the characters on three-year contracts, but very much removed from it. It always seems subdued there and perhaps not as bright as it used to, as if the light is very slowly going out. ? I dunno, I put up with it for many years and was even a bit of an apologist for it at times, because you'd still get the odd good storyline or relative for the oldies and they provided a sense of continuity. But I feel like the problem is becoming more and more pronounced, and with Ryder gone and a load more unrelated newcomers, it's knocked yet another connecting rung out of the ladder between young and old. I can only hope it's a bit of a transition phase because of quick decisions made in the advent of so many cast members leaving unexpectedly, and that things will pick up again. But we'll see.

^Yeah, there is a serious imbalance at the minute and a lack of relatable characters.

Those in charge need to look at what's working and what isn't.

It's been glaringly obvious for a while.

I don't think the separation is quite that bad at the moment: There have been periods in the past when the cast have been so segregated it's like watching different shows. Dean, Mackenzie, Nikau and Tane all work in or around the surf club, so it makes sense that's where they'd be seen the most. We seem to see Ziggy at the Diner quite often if she's meeting with Justin or Theo. Cash, Xander and Rose are all at the Diner quite often, so it's not entirely an old/young split. I think we saw Dean and Mackenzie there more when they lived over it but of course they're out of town now.

I don't know if I've said this in this thread already, but I must admit, largely for obsessive compulsive reasons, I'm glad Channel 5 stuck with the proper blocks instead of going an episode or two out of synch. We were out of synch nearly all of last year when an episode was delayed for a day after the Duke of Edinburgh died. That said, I'm also bewildered by the way they handled it, with two episodes not shown on Channel 5 at all (and one of them also losing the evening repeat on 5Star) and just ploughing ahead with the next episode leaving viewers confused. My preferred option would have been to use the old 1.15-2.15 Aussie double bill slot to show two episodes to get it back on schedule. (Actually, my preferred option would have been to just show the episodes as scheduled, seeing as how they weren't replaced with news programmes but a travel documentary and a film!) Mind you, Channel 4 did exactly the same thing with Hollyoaks, dropping two episodes from the main channel and only showing them in the First Look E4 slot, and I don't think anyone's seen that as part of a sinister plan to do away with the show entirely.

Today's episode and Cash is still being a bore.At least he had something resembling an idea (get to the station and ask them what happened), although his inability to leave the room made it a bit of a non-starter.I wondered if his apparent flashback meant he was remembering things but apparently not.I can't say I blame Rose for not wanting to go back for more of the same. And now, after ignoring Felicity when he came round, he's suddenly decided she's the one he wants to see, with it being an even chance he'll turn on her as well when she doesn't say what he wants to hear.

Whilst Leah was a bit persistent, I continued to see her point with Justin, who was blatantly avoiding the conversation and acting as though "I want to use our money to market the garage" somehow means the same thing as "I'm going to buy a van for our nephew's band." Oh well, at least he opened up in the end. Meanwhile, Roo's tutoring seems to be a success despite Marilyn's inability to keep her foot out of her mouth.

And despite returning to sanity a couple of weeks ago, we're back to the show pretending there's no guest cast, as the actress playing Roo's student isn't credited despite a fairly extensive speaking role and neither is the nurse Bree spoke with (who was actually credited earlier in the year!). Is this down to the Australian broadcasters randomly mashing episodes together or is the budget so bad they have to pretend there's no actors bar the main ones?

We also see Dean, Ziggy, Tane and Nik, Cash and Rose in SALT, not counting Mac and Felicity as they work there so would be.  Alf also goes there as does John and Irene, Roo and Maz so that's another gathering ground for all ages.

Channel5 dropping that episode was odd, it's only a half hour programme after all so wouldn't have caused that much of a disruption to their revised schedule.    It's confusing enough that the Aus page on here is one day out of synch so their pages run from say 2050 - 2056 instead of our 2050 - 2055.

Cash is getting tiresome, but I think it's because he can't remember what happened, so he doesn't know, as I've said before, who fired first, did Marty fire the first two shots, there were two in quick succession, then a very brief pause then another shot, was that Marty but then Cash manged to get a shot off before he collapsed or the theory I had before.

Bree seemed to get some of things out of Cash and Xander did reveal that he'd been dumped by his girlfriend - potential fiancé.  Interesting she asked if there was any history of his family having problems after any traumatic incident.  His and Felicity's dad did kill himself as he couldn't cope with his wife dying.

Cops, medics and other emergency people all tend to want to get back out there.

As I have said before It's no good Cash having a go at Rose she wasn't there and it's not good for her knocking herself out about it.  Not much good asking at the station either as no-one there knows.  I'm liking how Xander is there for her.

Leah was coming across as very pushy but I think and to paraphrase Shakespeare "he doth protest too much" when Leah was accusing him of wanting to cash in on Theo's dream.  I think if Justin had told Leah his idea first instead of just leaping in and doing it behind her back, she would have been a lot more reasonable about it because as we saw she was when he finally admitted that was how he felt. It would have been impossible for him to follow his dream when he was Theo's age, he had a daughter - what's her name again(?)? then had to go into WP so that put the kibosh on that.

That's our Maz for you!?    Lucky the Diner wasn't that busy so Roo and Ali(?) could have a quietish tutorial.

Oh, Rose got her words in a muddle - she said to Xander 'time wounds all heals'.  I did rewind it to make sure I did hear it properly.

Part of the job would be to defend yourself with shooting someone possibly so it’s unrealistic I think for Cash to be like this

Rose complained about the bay not being as exciting than the city so I thought she would be used to this

Leah is very screechy and falling into the same trap of Ziggy having her character wiped too  I thought Leah would be pleased Theo Is her newphew I wouldn’t call Justin obsessive just helping Theo out with his dream also being there like his dad wasn’t Theo has gone really quite boring these days though since his early days

Im not sure what type of music the band play though I though it was rock but Kirby was playing a lovey covey song on panio

I couldn't help thinking that Rose would have been better off if Xander had let her drive away from it all, then she wouldn't have been ambushed again by Felicity, whose previously apology was apparently a "Sorry, not sorry" as she was back to blaming Rose for Cash's decisions.Even Rose pointing out meddling in the investigation could put Tane at risk just got shrugged off.So, conveniently there was a witness who could confirm Marty shot first.Although Cash didn't exactly treat it as good news, it has at least cured him of his need to rush about getting answers. Now, without a goal to aim for, he's been left subdued.Felicity's being rather over-the-top insisting Bree watch him every second, although I understand her concerns.

Dean has tended to have a "look after all Ari's family except Tane" philosophy in the past, probably because there's still a bit of resentment about Tane being with Ziggy when she and Dean were separated, and he's even blamed him for not looking after Mia in the past.So it's good to see him redressing that and recognising that Ari left Tane with a whole mess to clean up.

So we heard Ziggy's got her car back: No doubt she'll be driving that before too long!

Wonderful person Jasmine is.  Ditches her boyfriend, brother/step sister who uprooted their lives to be around her, without having the guts or integrity to tell them in person. If that's how she's been....good riddance!

Felicity was one of my favourite characters at one point but I've kind of gone off her now.  There was the way she blamed Mackenzie after Tane got stabbed even though it was Dean's idea to not call the ambulance.  She gets of Scott free from the poker nights even though she got Mackenzie into it in the first place and was pretty much running things.  She annoyed me the way she stuck her oar in and was like a dog with a bone when she suspected something was amiss with Cash and Rose shortly after Rose had feelings for him.  She blamed Rose for Cash getting shot, even though he was the one who didn't wear a bulletproof vest and then had a go at her at the hospital for not wanting to break protocol.  Oh and she invited her waster friends to stay at the Parata's without even the common courtesy to check if it was OK first.

Not keen on that band although I do find the one with the beard quite amusing how he winds Dean up.

Well, they haven't exactly made friends with John yet, but otherwise Lyrik seem to be fitting in well.We did get another reference to them needing to get other jobs but surely they're not going to give up playing right after Justin's bought them a van? I did like how enthusiastic and indeed grateful they were about it, and the party that followed seemed like fun for all involved. Now that she's got her head around why Justin's doing this, Leah looked pleased for him.But not as pleased as Theo and Kirby, at least until the next morning... I was slightly confused about the geography, I assumed at first they were round the back of the Morgan place at the end, but Nikau's presence would make more sense if they were near Kirby's house.

Ah, yes, Nikau.Still pining after Bella like a 20-something who still carries around a picture of his high school girlfriend.(And yes, he has always been this annoying: He came in with a permanently sulky expression throwing strops at Ari and Gemma and he's never quite moved beyond it.)Tane similarly remains in limbo.

"The Cash Newman Show" is why I'm glad we didn't get episodes delayed. At least with the episodes being shown as intended we get at least a couple of episodes off from characters a week.Delay it by one episode and you can get four episodes of the same thing, delay it by two and we can end up with a whole week focusing on the same characters doing the same things!

It’s better if you watch it in blocks because otherwise nothing seems to happen these days when watching single episodes I think

I thought it was quite odd that Leah changed her mind so quickly over Justin and the band How did he know the words to one of their songs if they write them?

Highlight was Kirby she looked very nice
