I don't understand why we can't catch up with the Australian schedule?

Because even channel 7 doesn’t know how they are airing the show and can change their minds at a moment notice. You UK are behind but at least you know you are getting 5 episodes a week.

I agree it's in character but she's a character that, while I accept other people like, I've disliked for a long time for precisely those reasons.

Well, can't say fairer than that, I suppose. I do understand why people would find Marilyn grating, even though I tend to find her flaws make her more sympathetic because she's always seemed quite lost and emotionally frail to me. I suppose I'll concede that there is a tendency by (most) other characters to think the sun shines out of her, in that they believe she's good-hearted and well-meaning - but they are also perpetually staging interventions with her and meeting up to chat behind her back about her latest odd behaviour, and have done on and off for many years, so it's not like they don't recognise that she behaves quite childishly sometimes. I certainly don't think the show treats Marilyn as perfect, but of course they want us to like her and care about her, ao I suppose it's a question of striking the right balance.

I guess I should say something about the finale, which was the purest of pantomime. If this is what it takes to have the old-school cast involved in an actual storyline, then... I suppose I'll grudgingly take it, over Cash stomping about, Tane's love life and the travails of the band. Alf and co spend so long practically chained to that one table in the Diner anyway that the scenario probably felt like home away from home to them. It felt like the kind of ghoulish and macabre setup that Hollyoaks might dream up for one of its many serial killers, and as such my suspension of disbelief went largely out of the window. How much more interesting would this have been if Heather and Marilyn had both fought to overcome their issues in order to create a meaningful bond with long-term consequences for both characters, rather than Heather just leaping off the deep end and drugging all Maz's mates for a game of lifesize Cluedo? Not sure why Leah needed to be there given she already knew the answer to the big reveal, and given Heather knows she knows. But, yeah, it's not a big-stakes cliffhanger to leave things on - Alf, Irene and Roo are hugely unlikely to hold Marilyn's troubled backstory against her, particularly now, and Leah already hasn't. So I suppose Heather will just have to kill them all - or at least try to, and then presumably get sectioned and casually written out, never to be seen again.

The Bree storyline is far more of an interesting (and serious) watch, and I completely take back what I said about her flirting with other men while her husband was away - given Jacob's toxic behaviour, he'd deserve everything he got if she had been cheating on him or even contemplating it, but it seems more likely now that she is just desperate for some platonic social interaction from some normal, not-violently-possessive human beings, so absolutely fair play if she wants to go breakfasting with other blokes. Remi does seem a little oblivious to the usual etiquette about how not to overstep the mark with a married woman, and his claims that he and Bree are just mates are a bit disingenuous since he's spent most of the last month trying to woo her, which one might see as a good reason to tread a little carefully around a husband, regardless of whether he's a violent thug. But Remi's faults and lack of subtlety are matters for Bree to disapprove of, not for Jacob to hold against her and give her a beating for. There's something particularly horrible about her going to work and fixing up people's injuries, only to get a battering for her troubles when she steps through the front door. I imagine we can presume from all this that Jacob isn't going to be around for the long haul. With any luck, maybe he'll get on the wrong side of Heather before she's carted off to the asylum.

The bonkers Aussie scheduling rules out a UK sync up at this time.  I think we were very briefly a couple of weeks behind in the late 2000's/early 2010's and I know ITV got dangerously close at one point, with RTÉ overtaking Seven on one occasion in the early 2000's.  They were forced to drop back pretty sharpish.

That said, I do believe there will come a time in the next couple of years - possibly sooner if the reboot of Neighbours works - where the show will premiere on both 7 and 5's screaming services, if it doesn't come off linear altogether; and the way ads can be targeted to each individual viewer and the data they can get back on streaming means advertising on streaming will be better value £ for £.  Or $.

Once we get to that point there's no reason they can't be in sync as any bats**t linear scheduling by the Seven Network will be irrelevant.

The fact that Emmerdale and EastEnders can now air opposite each one another linearly shows that traditional broadcast TV is fast becoming irrelevant.  Until recently the BBC and ITV had a gentleman's agreement not to clash their soaps.  I believe one or both networks are putting their episodes up on streaming at the intended TX time during the football.

I agree about the Bree storyline , i think Bree liked Remi from the beginning but knew nothing would happen at that time , she is a flirty person and gives off mixed signals , i'm liking the storyline .

Part of me did want Rose to cover for Cash although I appreciate he put her in a very difficult position.  I actually think if that had been Xander she definitely would have lied.  I think one of the issues is Cash is quite unpredictable at the moment and she can't take the chance that he will go overboard with another suspect.

Bree is still giving out mixed signals.  Remi appears to have accepted that she has a husband so has stopped trying to hit on her (for now anyway) but it feels like she's flirting.  She clearly fancies him although I can't tell whether she's always liked him but was establishing boundaries or whether she's changed her mind after getting to know him.

I didn't really agree with Justin bluffing to Mackenzie to get a better deal for Lyric although I found her awkwardness when her car broke down and Justin and Theo offering to help quite amusing.  I especially liked her fake smile.

I agree about Bree she's definitely giving out mixed signals , she clearly fancies him but respects her marriage.

Merry Christmas guys, I'll still be around a bit but wanted to say it before things got too hectic; also, to those out there who might be facing a sad or difficult time, like me, hold on it can't always be this hard.
