💯💯💯💯💯!

"Yeara?!"... Love it, might use it myself sometime if not copyrighted by CaptainHulk 😅

1997 was great too. Helen made no impact in 97. In fact, she's hardly there for most of that season, prior to her death episode (presumably Anne's operations or whatever it was that she had). I didn't even notice her absence.

Go for it!😁

She had been unwell for the last year and a bit (she missed the original 96 opening titles and I suspect they wrote the stroke storyline thatyearbecause if that).

I saw 1997 as more of year for Bill/Anne/Lance/Amy/Toadie, Libby/Darren and their stuff, Lou and the Bishops settling back in. Also the stuff with Ben tracking down Ruth and forming a bond. And possible the greatest 3-layered Season finale.

I hope Amazon dig up some more to digitise for Classics. So far they have the whole of 2012-23 thus far. Maybe rights issues but 🤞

And some say Neighbours and H&A should have ended years ago. In a way that would have been good if they had ended c1997-2000 while still on a high. Helen's death in Neighbours and Ailsa's death in H&A would have made good final episodes, with other stories wrapped up as well, then the residents of Summer Bay and Erinsborough could live happily ever after 😀, like in one of those story books you read as a kid.

I've always said that 2000 was the end of classic H&A with the revamped theme and titles, cast changes and losing the iconic Diner and Stewart House sets, so I actually think Sally's wedding episodes would have made a great final episode. It was filled with many returnees, nostalgic reminiscing and a wedding (albeit a non-one) to bring the former cast and existing cast together. I recall the final scene of those episodes was Pippa walking through an empty Summer Bay House one last time (maybe with Sally?). The only thing that let those reunion down episodes down was that Judy Nunn was unavoidably missing, as she had fallen all and Nancy Hayes had stepped into the role, but that was obviously out of the control of the writers, producers and Judy herself.

Had it been the actual final episode, I suspect we'd have seen more characters return than what we had. Apart from Jack Wilson, they were all from the 1988 season, which was having a re-run on Channel 7 at the time.

We also had one of Alf's most iconic one-liners: What part of no don't you understand, the N or the O?

I think show writing and direction would not change much even with new  producer for H&A .

H&A & Neighbours have always had different style about them both in there writing of  storyline’s and characters and even though they have shared similar storyline’s at times.

Main reason why I have always preferred H&A over Neighbours is that writing of H&A always be more down to earth weather stories are written more  realistic or more dramatic as H&A always be more straight   with there writing of storyline’s and characters on H&A are written more nurturing as Neighbours characters are written more with lager then life characteristics.

It was sad to see the Diner go but I take into account it was not an original location, as it first appeared a year into the shows run. But I guess it became iconic. If Neighbours lost the Lassiters complex around 2000 I think we would be having the same discussion. As we know Neighbours is much more in tune with its roots visually and tonally than H&A is now.

It's not like it was done away with completely: There's always been a Diner on the show since the concept was first introduced, so it's not that different to Neighbours burning down and rebuilding the Lassiters complex multiple times.

I'm not sure I agree with H&A being more "straight" and down to earth than Neighbours. Well, definitely the case at times but not consistently through their histories.

For example, 1996-99 Home and Away was very out of this world and "mystical" at times whereas Neighbours was incredibly down to earth. Yes, more dramatic than 95 Neighbours (what isn't?!) but we didn't see many reincarnations, haunted caravans, refrigerator hallucinations, natural disasters etc in late 90s Erinsborough, did we? (I'm not counting Harold's return from Tasmania of course!).

I agree. The Bayside Diner may not have been original but it was sure more iconic than say Lance and Martin's mobile home.

I think the original Ailsa's shop would have been kept if not for issues in real life surrounding the Palm Beach location they used for filming. Ailsa's original shop had a small Diner area and some outside seats, plus the pinball machine and sweet/drinks area.

At least both the original store and the new Bayside Diner appeared in the show alongside one another for a few months until Dodge fired the original shop.

True.  The Mobile Home just became an artifact until Colleen took it over
