And the mystery of Maureen Evan's father etc. I guess a young Coleen just had a ONS with a random bloke in Summer Bay. Though on Neighbours I'm straining to know: - The Names of The Kennedy Twins (Bill and Anne's kids) and their genders - Likewise with Sky and Dylan's 3rd kid (probably 12 now due to the aging up and timeskip) - Which of Georgia's parents is Angie and Coral's sibling. 8 minutes ago, Homeandawayfan. said: II guess a young Coleen just had a ONS with a random bloke in Summer Bay. Likely a local who left the area shortly after or some blow-in on holiday. Edited March 21 by CaptainHulk
Luigi Severus Fletcher
The Early Years really had a certain charm to it that the current show seems to lack, I love the current show, but it really needs an overhaul. Was it the music? Possibly. Was it the fostering concept? Possibly. It's been 36 years, they need to rehash some storylines... Prisoner did it. Karen Travers and Greg Miller/Petra Roberts and Scott Collins, Lynn Warner/Jenny Hartley, Bea Smith/Myra Desmond. I guess they tried the new family moving into the Summer Bay House-thing, but it never flew. Nashes and Sutherlands weren't like the Fletchers. Though, I don't want Alf to move out of the Summer Bay House either...
Homeandawayfan.
As we know the current show has lost much of the original format. I worry that Neighbours is going the same way since the revival, more focus on crime and police settings. The fostering format that H&A was built on was good, but it showed the grim realities of foster children coming from abusive backgrounds, or orphaned etc, or from single parent families. Or the custodial parent was knocking them about/alcoholic/neglectful, and the foster children scared to go to the authorities, such as Damo and Finlay regarding their fierce mother the original Irene Roberts. Luigi Severus Fletcher
Facts! Like I stated earlier, unless we get a rehashed Fletcher storyline, I don't want anyone else moving into Summer Bay House, unless related to Alf in some way or a they're a classic character like Sally. Alf could always be the live-in landlord when the new foster family arrives to rent the house, I mean, houses are more expensive to purchase these days than they were in 1988. Well, with a cop moving in the street it was gradual. But at least we still have a "party house" in the street with Haz/Mackenzie/Byron and Holly and Sadie, who may as well be living there. Plus there are characters with records don't forget at least three characters who have been nailed on driving offences

Nashes and Sutherlands weren't like the Fletchers. The Nashes suffered from poor planning on the writers' part and weren't really given a chance. They didn't move into Summer Bay House until a year into their run, and even then, they were pretty much house guests of Travis and Rebecca. By the time they had the house to themselves, they were pretty much on their way out. The producers clearly had high hopes for them because they decided to recast Natalie rather than write her out (given she was recast in the middle of the Robert Perez story, the timing fit to kill her off!), but I think it was just an unfortunate timing for the family since there were clearly big changes happening in the show in 2000 when they were just settling into their groove at Summer Bay House. Tom was just another cookie-cutter teen, but Joel, Gypsy, Peta and Justine were all great characters, so it's a shame that dynamic didn't continue for a few more years. They weren't like the Fletchers it that they didn't seem to have the same warmth, but the show as a whole didn't feel as warm or light as it did in Tom and Pippa's day. I feel like the producers tried that with Zac and Leah and it didn't really work. When they moved in there, they had five children between them (Evie, Oscar, VJ, Hunter and Matt) and Alf living with them seemed like an odd set-up. The timing didn't help tho since most of them had moved on pretty quickly, but it would have worked better without Alf there in my opinion. It's hard to see how we would ever get a large or foster family back into Summer Bay House while Alf is still around, unless they married off Roo again, which has already been done with Harvey/Maddie/Spencer, or introduce a recast Duncan with a new wife, Bryce and some stepchildren/foster children. Duncan would be close to 40 now going on his SORASed age in 2016, so he could easily head up a brand new family on the show.

IIRC, John and Marilyn went through the proper channels to officially foster Jett?

Travis just seemed like a rather forgettable character to me. If he hadn't have married Rebecca, I don't think he'd be that remembered at all. I feel like Joel was a more complex character, perhaps because of his job and his relationships with Tom and Gypsy. I think Gypsy is definitely the most popular member of the Nash family, but Joel will always be my favourite.

It helped that Travis was already known to locals as a bay native who recently came home and had links to established characters (Rob, Donna, Stevo) On 24/03/2024 at 19:34, adam436 said: The Nashes suffered from poor planning on the writers' part and weren't really given a chance. No spark in her little thing with Will. Edited March 26 by CaptainHulk
