Judy Nunm recently said in podcast if they often me more  money to stayed they probably would bought me .

But I think PTB respected Judy Nunn wanted to leave to focus on her writing books and do think PTB would always had job for Judy Nunn if wished to had  stayed and Judy herself said too  I don’t  miss it because I know it was my choice to leave and could still be there today if I wanted  too.

It’s shame she didn’t stay though as I enjoyed Ailsa/Colleen/Leah all working together in diner as they work well together and all being very different woman it bought interesting dynamic between them.

Like how Ailsa was one off few people that seemed to take Colleen seriously but at same time could put her in line with  Colleen   Interference and judgement toward  others .

I would like to see how Ailsa  would taken to mellowed Morag .

If you look at the interview she did with Tristan Bancks in G'Day Summer Bay (1996) you can see that she's already far more invested in her writing career than in playing Ailsa. Playing Ailsa was the day job and she could do that without breaking into a sweat. While I am not questioning her professionalism, having somebody on a set who is openly using their downtime to work on their other job isn't a good look. If Tristan's opening comments are to be taken at face value, she spent a lot of her time holed up in her dressing room rather than hanging in the green room with the rest of the cast. If you have to keep knocking on her door and interrupting her every time you need to see her about something, that can become an issue. She doesn't even have to be rude for it to become irritating. It is one of those times when I genuinely believe an actor when they say they left by mutual consent.

That's exactly how I divide her up...

88 Ailsa: strong survivor, environmentalist, fighting Macklins etc.

89-94 Ailsa: just an average nice woman, doesn't do much

95-00: lots of crazy storylines but seems broken and miserable much of the time

1995-2000 did seem to use the remaining original cast members more than what they did in 1990-1994, during which they were largely supporting characters.

Sally was old enough to have more adult storylines as she moved into adulthood, Don was given more to do following Rebecca's return and being paired with Marilyn, and as we already mentioned, Ailsa and Alf were pushed to the forefront more with their storylines.

Alf, Don and Sally were all sidelined again in the early 2000s with the arrival of the Sutherlands though.

2000 Sal did come  back to the forefront, Turned 21, Called it a day with Vinnie, got her inheritance, Almost got married, Suffered OCD,  failed rebound romance with Luke Harvey, returned to her Alma mater to teach.

Alf was still the Sherrif of town.

Don was largely floating between the gap after Sam left and Seb showed up. He did suffer PTSD after Kane and his mates jumped him for coming to Will's aid.

I guess other than Sally's almost-wedding, I don't remember the rest to be honest or considered them minor storylines. I feel like all of that except her PTSD and getting engaged to Luke was pre-Sutherland too.

Alf felt very more like a supporting character after losing Ailsa, Duncan, Mitch and Shauna in quick succession. He was obviously the unofficial town sherrif, but he felt like a spare part until he got a new family with Ric, Martha, Morag and Sally. He obviously had the brain tumour story, but that's the only noteworthy story between 2001 and 2005ish.

I wish I remembered Don's PTSD too, simply because I know Norman would have smashed it.

Summer Bay also had a community hall which had a fire decades ago in February 1988, early in the shows run, caused by The Summer Bay Nutter.

I think the hall used for the variety night in Episode 30 at the end of Feb 1988 was another hall in Summer Bay as the community hall had just burned down about 2 episodes earlier. Not sure what did happen to that community hall which Bertram burned down.

I think the hall seen in Episode 58 in April 1988 for the dance was the church hall.

Did they have anywhere for gatherings before the Surf Club was introduced? The school had a hall but I can't remember for sure if we ever saw that. The school had to use the Surf Club for its Romeo + Juliet reworking and the No Justice gig.

They had the Church Hall until Walter Bertram burnt it down.

I get the impression it didn't bother Judy Nunn if they didn't give Ailsa much to do. She was spending her downtime on set writing her books and I'd say she was only there for the steady income. It's a pity she retired from acting because she would have continued to get acting work afterwards.

I think if Judy had stayed interested in acting she would stayed on H&A as she knows she was getting steady income and as you said Ailsa was very easy character to play expressing when she was just in background in Diner  given advice to people.

Lynne also said interview that she happy playing more background role with Irene and I think Irene is also pretty easy character to play  for Lynne to play when she in background more.

How do you know for certain that Judy is the one who decided to leave? The decision may not have been in her hands. Besides, everybody has to leave sometime. She was there for 12 years and I'm sure she did very well financially from it. Debra Lawrance is pretty open about how Pippa paid for the real estate.
