Ironically, mortal Shane in the equally mortal Brookside did more in the 2 months he had in Manor Park (before Chimmmmmeeeee Corkhill's smack fix finished him off) than Ryan and Simon did combined in their 2 aggregate years!

True. Even in Neighbours Ryan's kid sister, Lochy got more storylines (well more compelling ones)

It is like the interior brick walls of Summer Bay High in H&A looked pretty identical to some of the prison walls in Prisoner Cell Block H. Same design.

Funny, I noticed the same thing, I wonder if the set was sold to Channel 7 and repurposed for Home and Away's Summer Bay High? I mean, there's only a two year break between Prisoner's end and Home and Away's beginning, besides, Home and Away commenced filming in 1987, so it is quite possible... Either that, or the same set designer worked on both shows, oddly enough, Don's office almost looks like a refurbished version of Ann Reynold's office, just without the wardrobe and the air vents.

The Wentworth Prison interiors were repurposed for Warrinor (Men's Prison) on Neighbours from 2000-05

I be rewatching 1991 episodes lately and got to say I be enjoying Pippa and Micheal more than I did when watch episodes back when episodes were on 7two.

I really enjoyed Lois storyline and she was good written villain but at same time you can’t help but wonder if there was more then meets eye with character and that there was reason that what made she was and do think there was potential to keep Lois around for longer and was good having character like Lois to spice things up.

Its shame Morag and Lois did not meet as could Morag being one who be best at putting her in her place.

While I do understand show direction was teen focus but still think show was lacking older characters in that era.

Because in current show we have seven characters over age 40 Alf/Irene/John/Marilyn/Roo/Justin and Leah .

I am currently watching reruns of another Australian medical drama All Saints which started in 1998, script writer was Bevan Lee

in the first few seasons I can’t believe how many home and away early years actors have appeared in guest roles, including the ones who played Finn, Damian, Nicko, Celia, Pippa (Vanessa Downing).  Justine Clarke plays a Dr and Georgie Parker plays head nurse.

it’s a great series with some great Aussie actors.

I recall Greg Marshall, Sophie, Steven, Bobby and Colleen all had guest appearances in the Ward 17 days too, and there are definitely more. Katrina Hobbs (Kelly Watson) had a recurring role as a love interest for Connor at one point too.

It's a bit surreal seeing the two Roos appear together

The amount of Neighbours and H&A actors in either All Saints or Blue Heelers is through the roof. Usually it is many H&A actors in All Saints and many Neighbours actors in Blue Heelers.

We chuck Sons and Daughters, E Street and Prisoner in the mix, it's almost incestuous (Then we sprinkle in some Pugwall and  Round Twist with a smidge of Young Doctors😁)

What I liked was in that first year, the original Hogan's store was seen as a main meeting place for the Summer Bayyers, or the rarely seen community hall, or maybe chatter between 2 or more characters on the beach. I guess as the show progressed they needed to bring in more locations such as the Bayside Diner and then the Surf Club.

As we know the original store had a sweet/refreshments area and a couple of tables and the pinball machine. For a TV show where younger characters were often the main focus I guess H&A needed to introduce a bigger meeting place or 2.

Given how bustling the Diner was, where were all these people hanging out before? Hogan's store was certainly never that busy

The show was trying to chase a younger audience after the first year - so the new Diner and Surf Club sets were certainly in response to that. The plain General Store (which looked like old-fashioned tea rooms in some ways!) was replaced with the vibrant diner with modern background music etc, and many older characters like Neville and Floss, Morag and Celia were written out and replaced with younger characters.

It could be the fact that the show was targeting a teen/family audience, but the show didn't have a pub or bar in the early years. The teen characters obviously couldn't go there, but the young adults and older characters like Alf could have met there from time to time. Instead, the twentysomethings would have dinner at the Diner or characters like Alf, Tom, Lance and Martin would just drink at home. Alf mentions going to the pub sometimes, but it was never seen.
