Kristy Wright wasn't too happy when they introduced Chloe Anderson into the cast. Even if they had Rob Storey'd her rather than killed her off, this would've happened anyway.

Chloe could have just been "Rob Storey"ed 😀 rather than get a proper exit when she decided to leave the bay in 1999 after splitting with James. "Rob Storey"ed being where she could have just vanished from the narrative but said to still be living in the bay.

I guess with Rob the writers at least made the effort to isolate him from the rest of the characters before he stopped appearing - he'd quit his job at the school and bought a business that characters had no reason to visit, he'd moved out of Irene's place and his friendship with Donna was pretty much over.

Chloe would be a little more difficult unless they had taken similar steps to remove her from the lives of the characters first.

I found Kristy's reaction a little odd - she certainly wasn't the first regular character this happened to. Other names like Tom, Jack, Casey, Nick, Brody/Brodie, Natalie etc. have been reused among the regular cast.

Reading between the lines, Kristy seems a little bitter that her Chloe was killed off.

Chloe was never really a character I really took too she was just  kind of there in 1999  her exit seemed  a bit of a run it’s course type thing  Chloe was just not as popular as  Shannon. Selina  jack etc. and   Just kinda. Kept on to give Irene. Another surrogate daughter after selina. Leaft  don’t get me wrong I didn’t hate Chloe. Like i did. Rhys Sutherland. Dani  and  earlier Adam Cameron who I see as an awful character  but she didn’t seem to  do much. And like another poster said was just taking  Shannon’s storylines after Isla quit  I never brought into her and laughing as a couple

Lauchie. Not. Laughing 😝

Irene had Joey living with her at that point, giving Irene that maternal relationship, so Chloe wasn't really needed. I can't remember if anyone else was living with Irene around that time. Will and Hayley didn't arrive until 1998, and Marilyn moved out in 1996 after she married Don.

True. Joey arrived mid 1996. And Chloe earlier mid 1995. I watched Chloe’s departure recently  and she just kind of leaves for the city and that’s it isn’t mentioned. Again I don’t think. Till. Her return in 2005. I always. Found  Irene closer to selina  who was a surrogate daughter than she ever was to Chloe.  And then will Hayley and nick were her stepchildren kind of  as Ken died on the big day  so yeah but by 1999. Chloe was redundant  as a character and as said. Joey was still living. With  Irene and will arrived in February 1998  aus pace. And Hayley a bit later

She is. She is mentioned by James a bit and sends him some $ in a card for what is an otherwise lackluster 30th birthday for him and is see  in flashbacks before he leaves

All good points RE teenage characters being played by older actors.

Trying to think of examples of actors in their twenties playing teens from the 90s (all less extreme than the more recent ones shared):-

Richard Norton was almost 21 when he started playing Simon.

Isla Fisher was 20 when Shannon was in Year 12. Similar with Kimberley Cooper as Gypsy.

And, as someone else said, Cameron Welsh was significantly older than Mitch.

I'm sure there're some others...

But with Mitch nobody noticed too hard and Isla/Shannon was short/baby faced enough to a believable 15 when she started.

I wonder how do actors feel when they are offered a return gig such as Kristy's in 2005. She came back knowing that Chloe would be no more. Because it closes the door on any future returns, is it really worth it for the sake of a handful of episodes?

Some ex soap actors. Never find work after they leave a popular soap and there for  when the offer to return. Arises  they  jump at the chance. From what I seem to remember. Kristy has never done any other  work since 2005  please correct me if I am wrong  but some actors do go on to big careers after leaving a soap  isla fisher. Chris hemsworth suranne. Jones to name a few others settle into. Steady. Everyday life   Nicole bell  for example and  that is good to  but others. Like Les hill leave. With big ambitions  and. From what I seem to remember. Never do anything else after. And return to  that same soap

Would she have been told when she signed the contract? Or found out after? We assume the former, but she might have just been told the overall story arc, since her death was literally over and done with in about a minute and had nothing to do with the story arc of escaping her abusive partner.

Even her actual death episode was focused on Martha, and Chloe's death was just a quick/cheap shock twist at the end of the episode.

I wasn't Chloe's biggest fan, but she was pretty much just seen as expendable character because the show wanted a death for episode 4000. At the time, I thought Olivia might have become the next young foster child (a la Sally and Sam), to join Sally's expanding foster brood, but she was swiftly written out too.

At least her death gave Jesse and Irene a storyline. I stopped watching not long after, but didn't Irene have some sort of breakdown after Chloe's death and kept hallucinating that she could see Chloe?

Killing Chloe off  was to aid Ben/Jesse's departure and put the Scott/Hayley/Kim paternity storyline on the Backburner for a few weeks.

And yep after Corey had Leo break into the Beach House to poison Irene, she saw a vision of Chloe.
