The 'have a moan' thread

For the first time in my life today i was terrified to walk through my home town of Birmingham :( I can't imagine how people in London and the surrounding areas are feeling!

I don't know what the world is coming to, what makes these people think it's ok to behave in such a manner! It is pure mindless thuggery with NO justification whatsoever!

The police, already under pressure from goverment cutbacks are trying their hardest and I fully applaud and respect those out on the streets having to deal with it all but it's about time they were given the resources/go ahead to get tough!

They should set a curfew and warn that anybody on the streets after that without good reason (i understand that people have to work etc..) will be classed as a criminal and treated as such. If it takes water cannons etc then so be it.

I can't see how else it will be resoved if the idiots don't see that they CAN NOT and WILL NOT get away with this outrageous behaviour!!

ARGH!!! I'm way beyond the 'have a moan' point with this!! It is making my blood boil!!!

I totally agree with you, Ellen. The fact that some people no longer have a job to go to, a home to go to ... & innocent people being targeted. I kept up to date with the news yesterday & it kept getting closer to where I live. It was about twenty minutes away from me & they were looting the shops. It's just shocking behaviour & there's no excuse for it.

I know that Hackney was really badly affected & my great aunt lives there so I can't imagine how she's feeling. Yesterday, my dad even had to come home from work early because he's a London cab driver & none of us wanted him up there working, especially after I watched the news & rioters were putting iron bars through bus windows, etc. & only a couple of hours before hand, I was in Eltham, so not that far from Lewisham where it all kicked off once again.

I don't see why they don't get the army in ... open fire. That'll sort them out.

They're in Eltham now apparently Carina!! It's been happening about 10 miles away from me; so scary :( The police and emergency services have been amazing and working so hard under such difficult pressure but I think they need to be given permission to do more to stop them!

Apparently all the Millwall fans are ganging up against them in Eltham? That's what I heard ... My sister thinks I'm crazy for wishing that it's going to be okay but I hope they don't even think about touching Greenwich University!

It's disgusting. I'm staying with relatives up scotland so nothings happened up here yet but Salford and Greater Manchester have been targeted and that's only about 5 miles from where I live.

There's helicopters flying round the place where I come from and I honestly don't want to go home after seeing the state of some places on the news.

The riots are physically making me sick, my family live in Birmingham and they havent been personally affected yet but it is so scary, I cant believe how much damage these people are doing.

I know, same here! Crazy times accross the UK! I've got a cousin who's living in Bristol, so I sent him a text to see if he was safe, and he text me back saying that he's safe and sound, and that he was working the other side of town when it happened, so Steve missed it all! Pleased he is okay.

There are two things that have made me angry about these Riots.....two main things anyway. Firstly; the people who are moaning about the emergency services. i don't think anybody can fault them for what they've done to try and protect our streets. They're struggling because they were short staffed and they haven been given permission to use the force they need to to actually deter these looters and rioters.

However the thing that makes me really angry is how people are blaming the government for all of this violence. Don't get me wrong; I have my very strong opinions against David Cameron but people cannot say that it's because youth clubs have been closed and children are now living under such cuts that they're 'bored.' There are tens of thousands of other teenagers who are living in this same society who aren't going out smashing up streets and setting fire to other people's property because they're bored and think it's fun. There is NO excuse for it and I just wonder what the parents of these children are thinking; perhaps they're there joining them? They're where the responsibility lies!
