Cool. My obsession with this site is getting worse, I really need to go to bed because I'm shattered and I'm going to the gym tomorrow and going out tomorrow night, so I need to be wide awake and energised. But I just can't ...seem to...tear myself...away...

LOL! I need to go to bed too, but it's not like I have anything important to do in the morning, so I'll be OK for a while yet. Since no one on here knows him, the person at the centre of my moan is the minister at my church...he's banned one of my relatives because she dared to disagree with some of his teachings...I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I sure do hate religion sometimes! :P

That's outrageous! Religion does cause so many problems, it's really scary when you think about it. Is your family going to do anything about it?

Yep, my Dad and the minister have been exchanging, heated, emails. My Nan, the one who's banned, has been at the Church longer than the minister. The minister basically thinks that all members of the Church (whether you're in debt or not, which a large proportion of the congregation are) should give 10% of their pre-tax income in offerings to the Church. The minister just wants to shut my Dad up to minimise problems for him and sweep everything under the carpet. Dad's gone to the head of our denomination (our equivalent of the RC Pope, I guess). It really makes me angry, because the minister is trying to dictate what people believe and do. It's showing the beginnings of a cult and it seriously gets me wound up!

Surely no one else in the congregation agrees with him? For the majority of people, in my opinion anyway, religion isn't about money, it's about personal faith and beliefs. For this minister to ask for 10% of people's wages is ridiculous! I understand they need money to keep going, but it's really not the place to demand money. No wonder you're mad!

That's the thing....he hasn't bothered asking the congregation...it's all been really hushed up. The minister seems to be afraid to be challenged (IMO, this points to a fear of weakness, but anyway) so has only consulted his right-hand men (elders) who are afraid to say anything to disagree with him. My Dad'll sort him out! But it makes me seethe!

Same here, it is very hard my synagogue is very political and we are not full members(which you have to pay alot of money and we belong to a different syn..) so they look down on us, even though we are the most commited and the ones been there the longest.
