The 'have a moan' thread

I wouldn't mind if I did :P. I've been completely out of it lately. I don't know what I'm typing half the time. I just seem to move my fingers and seconds later people are reading things that I've barely even thought about... weird.

Why then is it so automatic to ramble on about nothing, but I can't bring myself to write one word (out of a required 500) for an assignment that's due tomorrow!? I'm not all that worried about the deadline, cause it's not much to write and it's a creative thing anyway, I just have to work out how to be creative! I'm completely stuck. My best idea so far is about a cat on a train... and that was suggested by my friend, who stole it from a Japanese movie... so... probably not best to write about that...

Meanwhile, Toni Collette is on Rove and NO mention of Rhys Wakefield! Gave a throw away reference to The Black Balloon - didn't say what it was about or when it might be out or how great Rhys is to work with, and let's face it, he's brilliant (quiet Musie)... I don't know, she was just yapping about elephants and her music, which no one cares about, I assume. Stupid Collette.

Gah, rendering times!

I'm currently editing and compositing a dream sequence for the film which will last about 1-2 minutes, the idea is that the guy is troubled by images of his dead girlfriend, after he's found out that she has been put in danger because of his actions.

Anywho's, as you can imagine there's some pretty ghostly effects, firstly the whole film is on blue screen so I've keyed out the background and put our created one into it, then she's got a blue aura emanating around her and she is partly transparent - then there's a Turbulent Edge effect added onto her which makes the edges of her wave around (think Bobby in H&A) and finally a mirage effect added to the background behind her...

I'm now at the point of rendering out the first test piece of 20 seconds...and currently it's taking 20 seconds to generate one frame of footage....there's 25 frames in a second....so I've calculated that for this 20 second test piece it will take approximately 2 hours and 45 mins to process it!

I did a few more calculations and it would mean that if she's seen on screen for 1 minute...it would take nearly 14 hours to create it!

The most annoying thing is I can't actually view it in real time, at full quality, until it's been exported - so if anything doesn't look right it would mean rendering again!

It does look pretty cool though! :D

4 weeks to go until hand-in.....

My precious cat 'Beamer' got run over and killed a few hours ago. This is why I should never have pets, it always results in tragedy!

Two bags down - lining and everything. Pics later, promise.

Now, as for labels... We managed to locate the old ink jet printer and find drivers for OSX. Plugged it in and printed a test-page. The cartridges seem to have dried more or less completely up. No wonder since it's more than a year since I last used it (and then with even older cartridges. I remember because I was printing out my grammar mid-term, where some of the text should be in another color than black to emphasize the answers to the questions) and it was funky already then.

So, the page came out and it's not exactly black. More a gray/transparent colors. The yarn have developed stripes. That I can live with, but I'd rather have it in solid black and readable writing.

The question that remains is - new cartridges or buy new printer? :P 'Tis gonna end up around the same price anyway.

Well, I'll put it this way, look around at prices for cartridges first. If they are too expensive and they are the same price as getting a new one, get the new one! That's what I did, then found out Canon is quite s--- for macs, especially Tiger, so got back to trusty old HP.

If you use the cartridges a fair bit, it might be worth buying new cartridges. Just shop around for a good deal. :)

We've got a laser printer which the one we normally use. I need ink jet for printing tags for my bags/accessories. Thanks for the heads up about Canon - looks like I'll be going for HP if worst comes to worst.

No worries mate!

Yeah, I didn't find out about Canon until after I spent bloody $80AUD on one, and it decided not to connect and print properly. Went round in circles with Canon and Apple, to find out they don't have a driver for Tiger. :(

So went out and bought a HP. Definitely go for that, it won't let you down....seriously. :D
