I keep trying to tell my boss that we need to keep some of the temp workers we have otherwise there will be no one left to do the job...

He won't listen... it's like he wants everything to go down the crapper... We saved $84,000 in wages last month. I know these are harsh economic times, but so much more could have been done by getting some extra staff instead of running on a skeleton crew and stressing everyone out till they literally drop of heat and exhaustion and now have to take time off because they are sick! And so the rest of us suffer now as well because we have to take on some of their workload.

Maybe he'll get the picture when he walks in this morning and nothing is done. Nothing is done because WE HAVE NO PEOPLE!! And the people who are there are sick and tired!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...!!!

I find a lot of companies are using the economic crisis as an excuse to lay off workers. Plenty of companies are doing great and don't need to cut their staff, but they see the opportunity and they take it. -_-

Hugs,

I finished a temp job last week working as a kitchenhand at a resthome, and this resthome's kitchen only had 2 permanent fulltime members of staff + 1 part time floater staff member (she worked between 2 sites) and 3 temps(it's now been raised to 4 temps). I actually left after a lot of deliberation with my temp consultant, because I was generally worried that if I was to continue doing 40-50 hours a week with just 1 day off i'd burn out (the rosters were not seen by the temp agency until my consultant asked for a copy and a review) (i burned out in my last fulltime permanent job too which had similar hours and 2 days off a week). I really do hope that your boss realises what he is doing before it's too late (and hopefully he doesn't cut your hours because you do end up sick).

what people are not realising is that if you lay off workers then you run the risk of loosing more money through workcover due to stress leave and stress related illnesses

it cost so much more to go through work cover then having 3 extra staff

I work as a casual at TAFE and even they are trying to cut down on staff so they can privertise TAFE, which means less jobs and less people can afford to go to TAFE

i'm speaking to my friend on msn, and she has absolutely no sense of humour about anything, not to mention taking 10 minutes to reply each time

I think I'm attracted to the 1970s version of Mark Holden. Like, really. Help me, I'm scared! :(

EDIT: It's okay. I found his official website and flicked through his gallery. While he was very attractive in his younger days, he's not so much now, and recent pictures of him standing next to Tim Campbell confirm this. Tim is the one that made me growl, not Mark. It's oooookaaaay...

Thanks guys. And you are all so right. You were right on the ball Cal. I feel for your situations suzanne and sportzgal. The company I work for still makes hundreds of millions of dollars of profit each month, but they are seriously cutting staff levels and refused to pay out our bonus because "economic times are tough". (I'm a middle manager in this company and achieved all my targets and objectives) Then I hear that shareholders and senior managers got a full payout and then some. Hang on who was the one slaving away?? I was soooo angry!

I felt so much better after I posted that though. It's just so frustrating when they expect one person to do the job of five people. We worked almost 15 hour shifts over Christmas because we were so behind and we didn't even get a thank you. As much as I want to do a good job, i secretly just want the whole place to fall apart...

I've felt like crap all day. I have had zero energy and a slight headache. I had 10 hours sleep last night, woke up at 11am and had breakfast... Two hours later I was back in bed, sleeping for another three hours, because I just couldn't stay awake. Then I curled up in front of a Coldplay concert for another hour before dragging myself online. It hasn't been a bad day as such, I've just been so ridiculously tired. It might be an iron deficiency or something. I don't know. I'm definitely going to see a doctor after my birthday. If I'm dying, I don't want to know about it until after I've celebrated being alive
