suzannelgnz Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I hate Studylink They stuffed me around for 3 months before finally confirming my allowance on Monday, and now i'm only getting a third of what I got last year.They then blurted out what my parents earn, I said to Mum about it via text and then she phoned me after she finished at work to ask some questions, Dad overheard our conversation on the phone and he phoned me back so he could yell and scream at me down the phone all because I know what Mum's actual income and Dad's projected income is. Arrrgh And becaue of that I may not be able to return to uni this year
Mez83 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 ^ Studylink are pratts to everyone. I hated them when I was at uni. The rule about allowance was daft when I was there. I wasn't entitled to it because my parents earned too much and I was under 25. It didn't matter that I was living at home! If you're considered an adult at 18, why does the student allowance go by that too. OR at least have a bit of consideration for the ones that live away from home. Hope you get it sorted!! Try to get a guy that sounds like a real soft touch then cry

They wouldn't let me have a student allowance because my parents earned too much and plus I was only 17. I even moved to another city so I was nowhere near my family at all! It was actually my Dad who earned heaps, but I only saw my Dad once a year at Christmas and he had never helped our family out monetary wise ever, and I got penalised for it. He also went nuts when I had to give his income details to studylink. I ended up having to get the Student Loan Living costs and thus put my loan up heaps. After that I just asked them to pay fees only, as my first year at Uni cost me $12,000!! I'm back at Uni this year, and I contemplated getting the student allowance, but in all honesty, I probably could not survive on what they give. So I am working to pay the bills while I study. Students are so hard done by its just not cool, but I do hope that everything works out for you!

Lise Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 When I was studying they wouldn't let me get a student allowance because my Dad earned too much all on his own, let alone adding in what my Mum would earn. I felt like ringing them up and tellling them that I didn't want to live off my parents all year. I hope everything works out suzannelgnz
suzannelgnz Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 All is sorted with my allowance But now i'm losing my voice and if it gets worse I won't be able to work tomorrow and I need the money.
