Home and Away's 40th anniversary is in 3 years time, will the show last beyond that or will it end on the 40th. Of course it won't be mentioned as 7 don't want to age the show.

Just a theory seeing as Neighbours 40th is in March.

Well, if, as you say, Channel 7 don't consider the 40th anniversary important, they're not going to choose that for an end date! I think it will keep going so long as it's financially viable and brings in an audience. As far as I can see, it's considered in a healthy enough state at the moment, but these things can change suddenly, it feels like there have been a lot of cancellations of long-running shows that seemed secure in recent years. But as ever when this sort of thing comes up, I'm not seeing any reason to panic just yet!

I watch it for the over top stories really shark attacks clifftop fights over the top villains sexy women that seems to have stopped lately l find it quite boring now really sometimes it’s amusing Alf used to be funny but now he just shouts at everyone really I think Cash is the most interesting now

I say it be sad if it ended I would miss this forum because I have made friends here over the time I’m not so sure about the actual show these days I dont watch it straight away now

H&A has had to become more high octane to survive, but sometimes has gone a bit OTT in the regard, and the shift in the show is probably not totally intentional. There are still thousands of episodes from the golden days of 1988-2008 to enjoy.

I think H&A has never been big on anniversaries anyway, the 10th in Jan 1998 was barely noticed. I am not sure if it is the producers not wanting to age the show, or just not being big on anniversaries.

Anyway H&A is just under 3 years from another milestone birthday.

I think it's a case of the producers not being at all interested in Home and Away's past. I think they want to make out like it never happened. ☹️

Anniversaries don't have to age an TV show. If anything, it just celebrates what the show has done to survive. H&A has had to pivot to the high-octane drama in the 2010s and 2020s, if it hadn't and still relied on similar stories to the simpler Early Years, I don't think it would still be around today. Whilst I'm not a fan of the retcon stories (like Marilyn's and Irene's secret children, Alf's not-dead wife) or the imbalance of age groups in the current cast, I do enjoy the more heightened drama like we had in the Braxton years and the Robbo years.

I will always prefer the early years of 1988-2000, but I can appreciate that would never stick with 2025 audiences.

That's true. Other than episode 4000, no other milestone episode or anniversary has been celebrated onscreen. I guess it's also harder to have special episodes on the actual date, because often H&A is still on it's Christmas/Summer hiatus at the time.

The first few months of 2008 coincided with Sally's exit, so I guess you could argue the returnees for her farewell could be seen as an unofficial 20th anniversary celebration, though that connection was never officially acknowledged.

They did a bit for the 30th to be fair to them.

Resurrecting Martha, and the re-enactment of the Blake and Meg sunrise scene with Billie and VJ. Im sure there were more little easter eggs that year too.

A subtle celebration if you will 🤣

Didn’t the 2008 premiere go from the Fletcher house flashback to Ric’s birthday cake saying TWENTY WONDERFUL YEARS? I doubt it was referencing Ric’s traumatic childhood.

That scene was planned but ultimately cut, we instead got a glimpse of it as he blew out the candles at the end of the episode. It was "20 Good Years" which I always thought sounded a little awkward.

Ahh, ok. I guess Good was better than Wonderful, but yeah…
