ste Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 I hate that Sharon keeps coming back and then leaving again. Maybe they should give her something decent to do other dennis this, dennis that, where's my father? And the actress might actually stick around. Sharon is a great character and she keeps getting wasted. I think the recent storyline with Demi has been pretty good, especially the great acting of the mother. She has a very "old eastenders" quality about her.

Di Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 24 August 2005 EASTENDERS BILLY BOWS OUT EastEnders villain to go with a bang as another star quits By Nicola Methven, Tv Editor EASTENDERS star Billy Murray is to quit as gangster Johnny Allen, it was revealed last night. The actor, who made his name as Det Sgt Don Beech in The Bill, will bow out next spring after a year of terrorising the residents of Albert Square. Announcing his departure, 64-year-old Murray said the decision to leave had been agreed with the show's executive producer Kate Harwood. He explained: "I sat down recently with the boss and we decided it would be much better for Johnny to go out with a bang than to hang around the Square for years, ageing gracefully." An EastEnders spokesman commented: "Billy has been a fantastic asset to the show and we wish him all the best for the future." His exit comes amid a string of high-profile departures from the BBC1 soap. Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Moon, will leave in an explosive plot at Christmas alongside screen husband Alfie, played by Shane Richie. They will be followed shortly afterwards by a second Walford couple - Dennis and Sharon. Actors Letitia Dean and Nigel Harman will bow out in a big New Year storyline. Allen's girlfriend Tina, played by Charlotte Avery, has already been axed and will appear in her final scenes in October. The raft of farewells gives bosses the chance to build plots around the departing characters to boost viewing figures and, in the longer term, introduce new stars in a bid to overtake Coronation Street in the ratings battle. Murray arrived in the Square as gangland boss Allen in January. Viewers learned Allen had lost his wife Stephanie and daughter Scarlet in a fire, but he was soon joined by his other daughter, Ruby. His first task was to take the Moon brothers, Jake and Danny, under his wing - and then he had to sort out the evil Andy Hunter. Hated by viewers for blackmailing Kat into sleeping with him and wrecking her marriage, Hunter was pushed to his death from a bridge by Allen. Johnny later took over the bar known as Angie's Den and renamed it Scarlet after his late daughter. After Murray's departure, hard man antics in the Square will be left to the Mitchell brothers, who will return in the autumn.
claire_louise Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Oh for God's sake, this is a nightmare! For a start, what were they thinking axeing Tina?! That's Chrissie and Tina, two of the shows strongest females characters who haven't even been there five minutes, who've both been axed. Yet they let the likes of Juley and Jake Moon come back! And now Johnny Allan is going, it's more than likely Ruby will be axed too, and she's the best young person they've got. I'm so annoyed! PS. Billy Murray is 64?!
Ashirr-Leigh Posted August 28, 2005 Author Report Posted August 28, 2005 I'm angry too.. was just starting to like Johnny. I guess maybe they all want to leave because they don't want to be stuck with the show when it inevitably sinks!!
Liz Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 Apparently (according to Inside Soap), TPTB want to move away from gangster related storylines. All I can say to that is that they're hardly good script writers working on that show, if unable to give the characters something else to do.
Ashirr-Leigh Posted August 28, 2005 Author Report Posted August 28, 2005 They could have done other things with the characters, you're right. And hey, if they want to move away from gangster related storylines, why are the Mitchells returning?
liam99998204 Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 I have heard from a poster on digital spy that the Mitchells are returning to sort Sam out only. After that they will "apparently" be gone. This means the majority of the characters that come back have only been to finish older storylines thus moving the soap into a new era. Not sure how true this is! Liam
Liz Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 I heard that Ross Kemp signed a £1,000,000 contract... why would TPTB agree to that if he was only staying for a short stint?

If they move away from the gangster storylines (they - and Beppe leaving - were the reason I stopped watching) I might start tuning in again. Until it got all misery and gangsers it used to be a great little soap.
