2 Friends United Through Family

Louisa and Tasha walked down the beach kicking the sand with their feet.

‘Why didn’t you tell me about Kane?’ Louisa asked.

‘What about him?’ Tasha asked happily.

‘You know did, that he did what he did to Kirsty’s sister.’

‘Oh that was years ago! He’s different now.’

‘Whatever’ Louisa muttered spotting Kane coming towards them.

‘You alright, my favourite sister!’

‘What do you want?’ Louisa asked

‘Am I not allowed to say hi to my sisters?’

‘Firstly Tasha isn’t your sister and secondly, I don’t really want to be! I’m going to the diner!’

Louisa marched away towards the diner. As she walk in she saw Irene at the counter and tried to remain inconspicuous, but it didn’t work.

‘Oi, Missy!’ Irene called before Louisa could get away. ‘What are you doing bunkin’ school?’

‘Um it’s a free period.’

‘No it’s not, you don’t have you timetable yet so I spoke to Mr Hyde and he said that he’d give you a full day of lessons!’

‘Ok so I bunked, big deal!’

‘What’s goin’ on! You can’t bunk school yet, you only started 3 hours ago!’ Irene asked crossing her arms.

‘I was just bored!’

‘What else?’

‘It’s Kane.’ Louisa said sitting down. ‘How could you let him sleep under your roof. He’s disgusting, and your basically saying it was alright by letting him sleep in your house.’

‘He’s reformed.’ Irene told her as Colleen walked pasted with a huff. ‘Look, he’s really trying hard to be a loving husband to Kirsty, and so wants to be a good father to their baby, why can’t you just give them a change?’

‘Because he’s a rapist that’s why!’ Louisa said walking out.

Henry and Matilda were walking home when Robbie ran up behind them.

‘Hey guys, you seen Tasha around?’

‘No’ Matilda answered ‘She came to pick up Louisa from our lesson and since then, we haven’t seen her.’

‘She bunked off the last two lessons, Irene would kill her if she knew! I’m going to see if she’s at Irenes! Tell mum not to hold dinner for me!’ He said calling to the, running off.

‘So what did you think of her?’ Henry asked Matilda

‘She was so stuck up! Did you here her! She was all like I socialise with Princesses and Princes!’

Henry raised his eye brows.

Robbie arrived at Irene’s he found Tasha sitting with Louisa and Kirsty at the table.

‘So you still haven’t told me how far gone you are?’ Louisa asked

‘7 ½ months.’ Kirsty told her. ‘I’m so excited I cant wait!’

‘Tasha I’ve been looking for you every where!’

‘Oh me and Louisa bunked!’

‘You bunked’ Kirsty exclaimed. ‘Irene is going to kill you!’

‘She already knows!’ Louisa told her.

‘She knows! Was she angry? I’m I going to be grounded?’ Tasha started worrying, but Kane cut her off as he walked through the door.

‘Hey guys!’ He called out to them.

Louisa said nothing but left her seat and went to her bedroom.

Beth and the twins sat at the table waiting for Robbie to arrive home.

‘Can we start yet, I’m starving!’ Matilda asked

‘Yer mum, he’s probably talking to Tasha sister anyway!’

‘So she’s back then?’ Beth asked.

‘Yer but she’s so stuck up. When she arrived in History today she was wearing a polo shirt and jeans, you know like you see the posh English people on T.V. wear and then she started going on about how she socialized with princesses and stuff.

‘Calm down Matilda!’ Beth commanded.

Robbie suddenly rushed through the door.

‘Ah dinner. Hope you didn’t wait for me’ he said rushing and sitting down.

‘So how was your day?’ Beth asked.

‘Not bad. Tasha skipped school after forth with Louisa!’ Robbie said with his eyes open wide.

‘This Louisa doesn’t sound like a very good influence!’ Beth said to Robbie.

‘You’d love her mum! She exactly like you, you know!’ Robbie told her.

‘No she’s not!’ Matilda exclaimed

‘I was joking Tilly, don’t get so worked up!’ Robbie told her.

‘So what is she like then?’ Beth asked him.

‘A bit rebellious, I guess. You can see Tasha in there though, like when she tucks a piece of hair behind her ear when she’s shy of nervous.’ Robbie said impersonating them.

Matilda laughed.

‘Your very quiet bro!’ Robbie said to Henry.

Henry shrugged.

‘Anything the matter?’ Beth asked him.

‘No!’ He told them ‘I wish you would all just stop going on about her, when you don’t even really know her!’

He stood up and marched through to his bedroom, taking his plate with him.

Beth raised her eye brows at Robbie and Matilda. ‘I think someone has a little crush’ She said.

‘I never understand him. We’re twins yet we’re so different!’ Matilda told them.

‘Ah the beauty of nature.’ Robbie sighed.

Back at Irene’s Louisa was still refusing to come out of her room. She had been in their refusing eat or drink. Irene had eventually taken the step to call Flynn.

‘Sorry to call you out at this time, love.’ Irene said to as he stepped through the door.

‘No problem.’ He told her as they climbed the stairs.

He sat on the floor by the door.

‘Hello Louisa, can you hear me? My name’s Flynn. I’m here if you want to talk.’ He sat by the door very quietly. Irene brought him coffee, and yet still the door did not open. The hours ticked away slowly and the whole time Flynn just sat by the door listening and waiting. The whole house was still. On Flynn’s commanded, the other residents had gone to bed.

He remembered two nights previously when a young girl, no older than 14 had arrived at the hospital. She was cold yet the air was hot. She did not have a temperature yet she shook more violently than he had ever seen. She flinched when anyone came near and refused to be seen by anyone. He eyes were glassy yet she had no trace of any drug. Her eyes were cold and distant, staring at the walls and not blinking for a few minutes at a time. Being both a trained councillor and a trained doctor, Flynn had been asked to sit with her. He had sat with her over 10 hours before she finally started to talk. She, like Dani, had been a victim of rape.

At 2.17am the door gradually began to open. Flynn had almost fallen asleep by this time, but he quickly pulled himself up and climbed to his feet.

‘How are you feeling Louisa?’ Flynn asked, but he got no reply.

‘Would you like to talk?’

Louisa shook her head.

‘Would you like something to eat or drink perhaps?’

Louisa shook her head again.

Kane had woken up after hearing the noise from upstairs. He gradually began to make his way up the stairs as quietly as possible. It was seconds before Louisa spotted him and headed back into her room. Flynn confronted Kane.

‘Mate, I think it will be better if you just stayed out of her way for a while.’

‘Flynn she’s my sister!’

‘That may be.’ Flynn started

‘I am not just goin’ to give up on her!’ Kane said raising his voice.

‘Keep the noise down!’ Irene said stepping out of her room. ‘I do not want Tasha or Kirsty waking up!’

Kane bowed his head slightly.

‘Irene can I talk to you for a sec?’ Flynn asked stepping towards her.

‘Sure Darl! What is it?’ she asked.

‘I was thinking, maybe it’s better if Louisa comes and stays with Sally and I for a while?’

‘Well if you think that’s best!’ Irene told him.

Kane had not moved from the landing. This was one person that he would not let his terrible past push away from him.

Flynn knocked on Louisa’s door. ‘Louisa Irene and I have been talking and think it’s best if you come and stay at mine for a while.’

No-one moved. No-one breathed. Slowly Louisa opened the door. She looked firstly at Kane, but quickly averted her eyes. Secondly to Irene who gave her a reassuring smile. And lastly to Flynn who just nodded his head slightly. Louisa backed back into her room. A few minutes later Louisa came out again, this time with a ready packed bag.

‘You alright love?’ Irene asked.

Louisa looked back at her with the same distant eyes that she had looked at Robbie with on the night of the concert.

‘Come on lets go!’ Flynn said placing a reassuring hand behind Louisa and leading her out.

“Did you hear Flynn come in last night?†Cassie asked Ric pouring herself a glass of O.J.

“No!†He told her. “I dropped off about 2 and he still hadn’t come in!â€

“Hi guys†Sally said coming in.

“Hey†Cassie and Ric murmured back.

“Hey Sally! Can Matilda and Henry come over later?†Ric asked.

“Sure†Was Sally’s response, just don’t wake Flynn, He didn’t get in until past 3 last night!â€

“I’m going down to town with Pippa for a while, I’ll see you guys later!’ Sally told Cassie and Ric before leaving with Pippa.

Cassie and Ric sat down on the sofa.

‘I wonder where Flynn went last night?†Cassie said to herself puzzled.

‘He went round to Irene’s.’ Ric told her ‘I heard them talking last night!’

‘You listen into his phone conversation, I thought girls were the only one’s who were supposed to do that!’ Cassie laughed.

Ric shrugged lying across the sofa. Cassie jumped on his legs, trying to push them off. The ended up having an almost silent pillow fight trying not to wake Flynn. They did not see the figure that glided into the kitchen. They only noticed when the kettle started to boil.

It was Ric who looked up first. Not recognising the figure he nudged Cassie, who laughed before seeing the expression on his face.

Ric and Cassie started to have a silent conversation which ran along the lines of who is it?

Cassie spoke first. ‘Um hey can I help you?’ she asked.

The person just stared at her.

‘You can talk you know!’ Ric said slightly worked up. Cassie nudged him.

‘I’m Cassie, this is Ric. What’s your name?’

The girl just stood and stared. There was movement above and the plodding of feet. Flynn appeared in the door way.

‘Ah I see you’ve all met then!’ Flynn said happily.

Flynn looked at the confused faces of Cassie and Ric.

‘Cassie. Ric. This is Louisa; she’s just started in your year!’ Flynn explained

Ric and Cassie nodded slowly.

‘Well you guys better go get ready, school started in an hour, and I can’t take you today, remember!’ Flynn told them.

Cassie and Ric ran to the door, laughing and joking as they had been before.

‘That means you too Louisa!’ Flynn told her.

She backed away shaking her head violently.

‘Do you want to tell me what’s the matter?’ Flynn said placing a reassuring hand on her arm.

She pulled away violently and ran for the door. Flynn grabbed her before she reached it. Her eyes looked at him with terror.

‘Ok!’ He said giving in. ‘You can stay home today but you must go to school tomorrow!’

She nodded slightly reassured.

Matilda , Cassie, Ric and Henry walked towards the caravan park. As the girls laughed and giggled together, the boys walked in silence, preferring their own company to each others.

They stepped inside the house to find Louisa on the computer. She quickly managed to minimise the screen before running upstairs.

‘Louisa!’ Cassie called after her.

‘Leave it.’ Henry told her, ‘I’ll go after her.’

Ric sat down at the computer.

‘Hey guys, look at this!’ He said calling Matilda and Cassie over.

He started reading.

‘Yesterday at 11.47 am Lord Ivor of Elvedon, 47, was killed in a car crash. Known for being the one of the richest men in Britain, he had been travelling to drop his grand-daughter, Elsie, off at a local nursery. Elsie, 18 months, was unharmed in the crash but Lord Elvedon was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. This blow comes after his daughter, Louisa, 15, (Elsie’s mother) went missing just over a week ago, after leaving an Australian hotel where she had been the supporting act on British pop groups, Mcfly’s, round the world tour. Elsie is now being looked after by her father, Matthew Eden.’ He paused.

‘That’s Louisa!’ Matilda said pointing to the picture on the side of the screen.

Henry knocked cautiously on Louisa’s door.

‘Louisa?’ He asked

The door opened slowly. Louisa peered around the door. Seeing that it was Henry she opened the door further to let him in.

He watched a single tear fall down her cheek. He felt powerless to help her. He had not got a lot of the caring spirit that other members of his family had. He sat on the bed next to her placing a single arm around her shoulder, and pulling her in close.

Henry came down an hour later.

‘She’s sleeping’ he told the others.

‘I’m going to put some pasta in her room. Encase she wakes up later and is hungry. There’s some for you Henry if you want it!’ Cassie told the guys.

Henry helped himself to a large bowl of Pasta.

‘HENRY!’ suddenly came the scream from upstairs.

Ric, Henry and Matilda sprinted up the stairs.

Cassie stood in the door way with a smashed bowl of pasta at her feet. They all looked in to the room the curtains flapped at the open window.

Matilda and Henry walked home in silence. As they walked into the house, Beth greeted them with a friendly smile.

‘I’m going to bed!’ Henry told them.

Back at the caravan park Cassie and Ric tried to piece together the bits of the story as they explained it to Sally and Flynn. Sally had rung the police, but they had told her that there was nothing they could do until she had been missing for 48 hours.

She stepped onto the estate that she now owned. The air was ghostly, carrying a light mist. She felt a presence in the air. She turn from the house and ran as quickly as her legs would carry her.

She sat outside the open window listening to a young child whimper inside. She watched as one by one lights flicked off. And then she saw him. He man she despised most in the whole world.

She slipped silently into the room, looking at the baby only for a second before lifting her up and slipping out into the night.

Tasha sat watching the T.V. She had been very quiet since Louisa left, refusing to speak to Kane, as she blamed him for Louisa departure. She sat and watched as Crimewatch Australia came on.

‘Now and international cry from help from the British Police.’ The female presenter told the viewers.

‘Yes’ The male presenter started ‘Elsie Willgrass was taken from her bedroom her fathers house, just days after loosing her grand father in a horrific car crash.’

The screen flicked through shots of a little girl. An all to familiar face appeared on the screen as the voice continued.

‘British police believe that she was kidnapped by her mother, 15 year old Louisa Willgrass, who may have brought her to Australia.’

Tasha called out. ‘Kane! Kane!’

Kane hurried out of his bedroom quickly followed by Kirsty. He looked at Tasha face before looking at the screen and back to Tashas face.

Flynn had not slept since Louisa had left he could not help to think that he was somewhat responsible for her disappearance. Sally had told him on a number off occasions that he should not be beating himself up about it, that it wasn’t his fault. But he couldn’t help but wonder if he could have done something more.

Henry lay on his bed looking up at the ceiling. He noticed a crack that he had never seen before. ‘What amazing things you find if you just bother to look at the ceiling for a few minutes’ he thought. He had gone to bed early again, for the third time that week. Matilda had been annoying him, and Robbie had been with Tasha again.

He heard a tapping at his window. A first he thought he was imagining it, but gradually it got louder and louder. He stood up from his bed and look out. Nothing.

The knocking started again. He stood up again making his way over to the window. This time he looked out more closely into the darkness. Standing a little way off from the house was a figure.

Henry looked around at the door. He kicked his legs out of his ground floor window and started moving towards the figure.

‘Hello?’ He asked quietly.

As he walked towards the figure he could see that the figure was not one figure but two.

‘What are you doing here?’ He asked.

‘I didn’t know where else to go.’ They replied

Henry shifted from foot to foot.

‘I’m sorry I left you in the lurch the other day. I just had to get out of there!’

‘It’s ok!’ He told them ‘How did you get out of the window?’

‘I jumped!’ She told him casually.

‘What! It’s on the second floor!’ He exclaimed.

‘Henry is that you?’ A voice came out of the darkness.

‘Come this way!’ Henry said grabbing her arm.

They ran along the side of the house and into the furthest corner of the garden. The sat down behind a tree so they were hidden from the house.

‘Who’s this then?’ Henry asked

‘This is Elsie!’ Louisa told him.

‘So Sally and Flynn know your back then?’

‘No!’

‘Irene?’

‘No’

‘Tasha?’

‘No’

‘So who does know then?’ Henry asked

‘You!’ she told him.

‘Well where do you expect to stay? You can’t stay outside in the cold with a baby.’

She looked at him.

‘Oh no! you can’t stay here, there isn’t any room!’

‘Oh please Henry!’ She begged ‘I haven’t got anywhere else to go!’

‘You can’t there’s nowhere for you, or Elsie, to sleep!’

‘Please Henry. Just one night. No-one need know!’ She begged.

‘One night!’ Henry told her.
