xGlowingAngelx Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Jess, I kept laughing every time that Dog was mentioned, because I kept thinking 'ahh the judge' (As in the courtroom judge!' LMAO. The whole book was so tragic. I was so shocked when Anna died though. I wasn't sure whether to be just shocked or disappointed. I mean, I know it would have been too typical to have the fairytale happy ending, but really, killing off Anna was just evil! And, although he wasn't that much of a major character, I loved Jesse. His line about being his siter's keeper made me fill up for some reason. It made me laugh aswell, bu it was one of those 'emotional' lines. I totally agree about the recommendation. Although, I'd recommend it if you enjoy reading anyway. Before I discovered Salem Falls, I only really read books that seemed to have a laid back style to them. Like a chick flick style book, if that makes sense. But once I doscovered Salem Falls, I knew I had to read it. My personal recommendation to read next would be Plain Truth because, from all the ones I've read, that's the one that's furthest away from My Sisters Keeper, so it's nice to read something totally different from the same author, I think that was why I was so gripped to read her.
Dan F Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 The Shadow of the Wind is one of my favourite books ever, you should both read it! My dad is reading it at the moment and also thinks it's fab. Sorry to drag up a post from around 20 months ago...but the thread isn't that old so I don't feel as bad I just happened to be looking at some of my old posts and saw yours on the same page.....and I'm actually reading 'The Shadow of the Wind' at the moment! I'm about halfway through and its done a good job of keeping me interested! Bit hard to keep track of who's who with all the little flashback things to Carax - so many names to remember and sometimes I have to go a few pages back and remind myself of someone! But all the same I'm really enjoying it!
claire_louise Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 Yeah it's quite complicated but it gets very good, particularly in the second half. It's easier to remember things once you start reading it more quickly! Hope you enjoy it Dan.
Eli Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Help! I need a good book recommendation, and I need it fast! Anyone got a good book I should read? I'm going to the library soon and I desperately need something interesting. I like Jodi Picoult's books, but I've read the one (!) they had at the library already. I like pretty much everything that is critical to society and different cultures. I like movies like Freedom Writers, Dangerous minds, Trapped in a purple haze, Crash and 8 Mile if that helps. So anything related to drugs/gay life (teen life/prejudice/rights etc.)/"Troubled youth"/cults etc.? I'll take almost anything as long as it's not too heavy, I haven't read a book since.. July... Thanks in advance!
claire_louise Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 What about Sugar Rush by Julie Burchill? I haven't read the book but they made it into a tv series and that was good. It's about a teenage girl coming to terms with being a lesbian.

It had got me hooked this afternoon and I read the last quarter of the book in one go (rather than heading out onto Palm Beach....sad I know....) I really was dreading the end following what was said at the end of one of the chapters though....all these H&A promos and I still don't learn to not believe everything I see Anyway, I'd highly recommend it to anyone! Just as Claire said though, its much easier to keep track of who's who and what's what if you read it regularaly....not like me thats been reading on and off for the past month. I'm moving on to The Savage Garden now if anyone has read that....? Also have Labyrinth by Kate Mosse to read at some point....though thinking about it I left that at home....darn.....

Thanks in advance! I'd suggest "Candy." I haven't read it, but I loved the movie, and the only reason I saw the movie is because my mum loved the book
gmgirl Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I suggest Catcher in the Rye, which you should have read, but if you haven't you must do so immediately lol.
