Excellent chapter Liam! The quality of your writing is superb!! I love the 'inside Ric's head bits', my favourite being when he'd come out of the interview thinking that he'd succeeded against Peter. Speaking of Detective Baker, wow, what a fun job he has :P lol, he is a sly one isn't he. You'd think Ric would notice considering the amount of times he's pulled the same tricks on other people.

Can't wait for the next update, i really hope this all gets blamed on Scott!! Lol xxx

A reasonably quick update for me today, which propels the story further forward, shows a different side to Ric, and hopefully continues to confuse you all. Please read and review!

Chapter 20: Not so easily influenced

As Peter’s kiss became more meaningful Ric sighed, never wanting to break the bond between the pair. After only a few seconds however Peter stopped and stood up.

“Perhaps this isn’t the best idea with the door wide open!” He walked over to the Gym’s entrance and surreptitiously closed the door, trapping the two men together. Walking back over to Ric he began to remove his clothes, eager for the pair to be together. Kneeling down in front of him, he looked deep into Ric’s soul, before kissing him again, but this time with more passion and urgency.

Ric responded at first tussling with the concept of kissing a policeman, and his feelings for Lucas. In one way he liked the danger, but in another he knew he was way out of his depth. Peter sensing Ric’s uneasiness moved his hands down Ric’s body trying to calm him. However when Ric felt the detectives hand moving up his shirt, he pulled away, not because of Lucas but because the danger was too great.

“Do you really think I’m that easy detective?” Ric pulled his shirt down. “I’m not a fool!”

“Ric, what’s wrong, I thought we were having some fun?” Peter looked exasperated at Ric’s sudden turn around.

“That’s exactly what I’m worried about. Fun at whose expense?”

“My job is on the line here Ric. I’m doing this cause I am attracted to you, and you can’t deny you feel the same.” Peter moved closer kissing Ric’s neck, driving him wild with want and lust.

“I said NO!”

Peter looked genuinely shocked. “Don’t think I’m going to give up.”

Ric gathered his belongings, and chucked the keys to Peter.

“Well don’t think your going to get anywhere.”

***********

Sitting alone on the beach Ric thought about his actions over the last few months. He knew he had hurt people in a way that was unnecessary, but it was only the way he felt himself. He sat staring at the sea, his father’s face in his mind. A silent tear rolled down his cheeks. His breathing becoming shallow, and his heart pounding Ric was unsure of which path he should now follow. He had two options. He could continue the way he was going, destroying everyone around him, with his plans for destruction growing more elaborate by the day. Or h could repent. Tell people that he was sorry, and slowly rebuild some of the bridges that he had destroyed. The tears came faster now, like a tidal wave on his face, and for a few single minutes Ric was tired of being bad. He longed to be in the arms of Lucas, the boy that he knew he truly loved, but then he realized. He hadn’t even started on Irene yet and although it was time to get the big guns out, just for a little while Ric needed to be human. He needed to cry.

Hugging his chest, Ric buried his head in his hands. The tears came faster and faster, leaving him feeling very much alone, and in need of helping. He muttered to himself, “I love you Dad,” referring not to his own father but instead to Flynn. He didn’t however, have time to wallow in his misery, with the wedding being only six days away. Wiping away the tears Ric took a final glance at the ocean before standing up and calling Lucas on his cell phone.

“Hello, I’ll be home in about half an hour. I’m sorry I left you in my room. I just needed a walk. How about we spend the day together. Just you and me. Sounds good. Ok see you then.” He hung up. Time to pay a little visit to Jack now…

***********

Peter sat in the gym bewildered at what had just happened. He had thought Ric was going to be easy to tame. Obviously not. It was time now for a bigger plan, something which would make him appear irresistible to Ric, and Peter knew just the thing.

***********

Standing on the Holden’s doorstep Ric could see no sign on life in the house. He had knocked twice already. Deciding instead to let himself in Ric grabbed the spare key behind the surfing boards and opened the front door. Quietly closing it behind him Ric looked around. There was nothing of interest in sight so he instead decided to explore the only room he had never got to see. Jacks.

If Lucas had a tidy room, then it was a wonder him and Jack were even related. Jacks room had nothing on the shelves but instead a combination of clothes and cd’s lining the floor. His desk was awash with paper work, most likely from the station, and only his uniform hung neatly on the wardrobe door. Ric stepped over to the paperwork, eager to find something of use. The first few pages were nothing of use, merely incident reports that Jack had written and needed to hand in. A green file below however caught his eye.

Ryan Baker’s kidnap report. With a list of all the villains that had been present in the bay before. Including not only the dead people (Eve Jacobson) but also the most recent (Charlie McKinnon), the list was entitled suspects. Ric chuckled to himself at the sheer naivety of the summer bay police force and turned the page.

“What the hell are you doing?” Jack entered his room, obviously fresh from the shower and dressed in only a towel.

Ric looked embarrassed. “Ah you caught me!”

“Yeah I did, so do you care to explain why you are in my bedroom looking at my private work files.”

“I didn’t read them. I didn’t even know they were to do with work. I was actually looking for something else.”

“Something else?”

“Yeah.” Ric blushed trying to avoid tracing Jacks body with his eyes. “It’s just Tony has been so good to me since all the stuff with my granddad and Duncan, so I wanted to get him and Beth a really good wedding present. I was hoping to find some ideas.”

Jack still looked fuming. “In my room?”

Ric turned on the waterworks. “Yeah, I-I- I didn’t know where else to look.”

Jacks approach softened. “It’s ok. You can see why I was annoyed though. I think it’s kind of sweet really? But why didn’t you just ask Lucas?”

“Well he’s still asleep on my sofa bed, and I wanted it to be a surprise for him to.” Ric was positively bawling by now.

“Ric how about organizing the cake. Dad said he didn’t see the point in a big cake for one day. It would be a nice surprise.”

Ric smiled. “Yeah I could. And Jack? Im sorry again.”

“It’s not a problem. No harm done. But go and wake my good for nothing brother up. I need to get ready for work!”

“Thanks Jack!”

***********

“So my brother was just standing there in a towel? No way!” Lucas laughed.

“Way. Can you apologize for me again when you see him please?” Ric tried to sound innocent.

“Sure. So what’s the plan for today?”

“Well.” Ric paused for dramatic effect. “You are going to teach me to surf.”

“Last one to the beach buys the milkshakes.” Lucas burst into a fit of giggles as he ran out of Ric’s room.

***********

As they walked along the beach Ric couldn’t help but admire Lucas. He had had the patience of a saint trying to teach Ric to surf, but it wasn’t just that that made Ric love him. Wearing a tight tank top, and short surfer shorts Ric couldn’t deny that his boyfriend had all the makings of a sex god. He had the most amazing deep blue eyes, and hair that was destined to have Rics fingers running through it.

“Lucas can you sit down for a minute?”

“Sure what’s up?”

“I wanted to tell you that I love you. I guess today really proved that to me. When we were surfing I just couldn’t stop laughing, or falling off, and then when we went shopping you just looked so attractive in the changing rooms that well, to be quite blunt I could of pounced on you there and then. Now here we are on the beach and you’re looking even more amazing.”

“Ric, I love you too.” Lucas leant in for a kiss.

“I’ll meet you back at mine. I just need to go and check on Granddad. But be in the shower waiting!”

“I wouldn’t dream of being anywhere else.” Lucas and Ric both smiled.

***********

As he made his way to the hut to check on Ryan, Ric for once felt deeply happy. Today had been good. He had spent the day with the boy he loved, and nothing was going to stop them from having even more fun when Ric made it home. In fact, his plans were going full steam ahead, and now he was in charge of the cake life was only getting better.

Making his way to the abandoned hut now Ric stopped for a moment to collect himself and put on his mean and moody look. Opening the door he stopped dead in his tracks. Ryan was nowhere to be seen, and that could mean nothing but bad news…

Great twist at the end of the chapter Liam, the best bit was the second bit with Ric showing his human side. This is really different from the Ric we see on H&A, as i said i loved the morally dubious stuff where Ric literally doesn't know what to do, and when he referred to Flynn.

Brilliant work Liam! xxx

Great Chapter. :) I bet Peter has taken ryan threatens to tell everyone if Ric doesn't do what he wants. Somehow Zoe and Charlie must be involved but i have no clue how.

I've just re-read and cuaght up all the way from chapter 5, Liam. It took me a while, but I did it! :D I'm so loving this...although I feel so sorry for Ric, I can't help feeling that he's got himself in way too deep and doesn't really know of any way to get out of it. And now Peter...Ric clearly wants to destroy everyone, but I think that he'll just end up destroying himself.

I've also loved all the little teasers and clues you've been posting, however, logic has never been my strong point, so I think I'll keep my theories to myself for the time being....:P

I also really love your writing style. You manage to convey the more serious human emotions and still inject humour into it, and you manage to handle sexual "situations" without making them seem cheap or tacky. :)

And best of all, you've inspired me to carry on with my Ric/Luc fanfic...I have all the work on my laptop (that has gone away for repair), so providing they've backed everything up, I wanna resurrect it. Can't promise anything though. :)

Anyways, great work, more soon! :D
