St James’ Church (1988-2006, 2010-)

Description

St James’ Anglican Church in Pitt Town has been used on and off for Summer Bay’s church, of the same name, since the very beginnings of the show.

Memorable ceremonies from the early years of the show include Frank & Roo’s non-wedding, Frank & Bobby’s wedding (though both of these only used the church’s exterior, with a studio set for the interior) and Tom Fletcher’s funeral service. In later years it was used for Shane & Angel’s wedding, Michael’s funeral, Sally & Kieran’s non-wedding and Flynn’s funeral amongst countless other occasions, before it took a hiatus after Jack & Martha’s wedding in 2006.

From 2006-2009, Summer Bay’s church moved locations to nearby Wilberforce, just across the Hawkesbury River, but the church in Pitt Town returned to screens in 2010 for the wedding of Roo Stewart to Harvey Ryan.

The church overlooks Pitt Town lagoon, with views across the valley to the Blue Mountains. Pitt Town is also notable for doubling as ‘Wandin Valley’ in the soap ‘A Country Practice’.
