'"One chocolate shake and a Simpson." "A what?" "An OJ!"'

WELCOME

Welcome to Summer Bay News for the third time. I hope you are still finding it interesting. Remember, its up to everyone to keep it that way!! Well, there's more on the Donald Fisher *discussion* and I have written to Norman Coburn in Australia asking him what he thinks about his character, Donald. Whether he replies or not remains to be seen! If he did that should give you something to say in future issues. There's a lot to reply to in this issue but you can send it all in the same e-mail to this address...

[email protected]

Here's a checklist in case you need it!!

Your opinion for the new poll.

Your opinion of Isobel.

Why you watch H&A.

New trivia question.

I also need profiles and top ten lists urgently! I hope to hear from you soon! Well, here it is, issue #3. Enjoy...

SUMMER BAY OPINION POLL #2

It seems the opinion polls are the things that trigger off loads of e-mails so I decided to have another on! This one, however, will have more choices than yes or no. The question is 'Who would you most like to return to Home And Away?' It was suggested by Alan Shade. You can vote for up to 3 different characters but you can't vote for the same one three times! Send your answers to the usual address. Results may be next issue or possibly in #5.

GENERAL E-MAILS

ADELE: My favorite character is probably Jesse and Shannon. I don't like Sally, Sam, Donald, Irene, Alf or Casey.

GERARD CALLAGHAN: I've managed to get time to have a look. It looks very good! I see you've got the second issue out already. That was quick! I must give it a look.

JEN TILL: Yeah, well the weekend is the best time for people to get on the net, so friday nights probably a good time to put the new letter up...what sortof a response do u usually get?? it was a brillaint idea to advertise itthrough the summer bay courier which seems to reach quite a number offans..i mean if u hadn't I would never have known your page existed :}

RYAN WEBSTER: BTW, I'm from New Zealand and we have just had a big earthquake and Alf had a heart attack, how far behind are we?

Great page, keep up the good work.

Well, Ryan, I tried to reply to you but got told there were problems delivering mail to your e-mail address! You are about six months behind the storylines in Australia. Does anyone know how far behind any other countries are? - Editor

E-MAILS ABOUT DONALD FISHER

Yes, its still going on! Here are some more views...

GRANDMA: My favourite chracters in Home And Away are Marilyn and Fisher. They both seem to want to do their best, but usually come unstuck.

It was brilliant scriptwriting to marry them. Donald lifts Marilyn intelectually, and Marilyn keeps Donald's feet on the ground. Long may they reign!

GERARD CALLAGHAN: Marilyn and Donald are such a wonderful couple. They work so well together, but are chalk and cheese. Whoever paired these two off was really inspired! Recent episodes where Donald's mother (I can't believe how youthful she is - must've been a child bride!) are really entertaining. She is far more like Marilyn than Donald. It's hard to believe the straight-laced headmaster can have such a funny mother and wife. Her motorcycling antics with Travis really made me laugh. It looks like she's about to have a "fling" with Bert King, so I can't wait to see that.

In general, I think Home and Away is getting more exciting by the day.

ADRIAN MURPHY: My answer is that I think Donald should stay, because him and Marilyn are a wonderfully funny and happy couple. It would be a shame to break that excellent trio of Maz, Don and Rebecca....they interact so well with each other.

E-MAILS ABOUT THAT BACKGROUND

KERRY: The background is much better!! Thanx. Looking forward to issue #3.

KIRSTEN WILLETT: I definately like the new background better!

ISOBEL DU PRÉ

During the week, I put out a message on the Home And Away mailing list asking people what they thought of Donald's mother, Isobel. I asked if you thought she was ridiculous and whether you thought she would have been given the same personality if Donald had never married Marilyn.

ADRIAN MURPHY: Yeah, she's great fun, and Lorrae Desmond is a great actress. It'll be good to see some poignatic scenes from her, rather than just comedy.

No, I think it's a kinda mother-complex that Don married Maz !

JOSH DARVILL: My opinion on Isabel is that she is plain wierd. She is the exact opposite of don, so she interesting. Stay tuned on Home and Away to see what Isobels dying wish is, you won't believe what she gets Don to do!

EDITOR: Well, you don't read much from me apart from the intro and ending so here's what I think. I think Isobel is a great character. With all the Summer Bay disasters, 1996 was the first year Home And Away overtook Neighbours in the ratings here in England and Neighbours seemed to get quite dull. However, recently it seemed to be turning round again. Home And Away was taking second place to Neighbours with Helen's stroke and Cheryl's death. OK, I'll get to the point, I think Isobel has made the whole programme interesting again! I can't wait for her scenes to see what on Earth she is going to do next. However, if the producers had wanted a mother for Donald a couple of years ago, before Donald had anything to do with Marilyn, I don't think they would have made her this over the top! Don't take this as a complaint though - Marilyn, Isobel and Rebecca make an excellent trio!

Can anyone in Australia tell me what Isobel is dying from? Thanks!

Isobel

Don't worry if you don't see your opinion here. I've kept a few for issue 4!

TOP TEN LISTS

This is actually a top five list, written by Adele...

Being a small town, you'd think you would normally know most people in the town, right? Wrong. The top five times you see strangers in Summer Bay.

#5. Eating at the diner. It's amazing the amount of people that eat there, especially since it's a small town!

#4. At the high school. I've been to small towns and their schools definatly aren't that big or crowded.

#3. Going to have a shower at the caravan park. There's always strangers at the caravan park!

#2. At the character's wedding. Angel and Shane had strangers throwing confetti and Donald and Marilyn had strangers and the reception.

#1. Paying their last respects to a character who has died and they have never met. At Micheal's funeral the church was filled with strangers.

Thanks Adele. Top ten (or five) lists are in short supply. Please send them to me quickly! Be creative, be funny and be imaginitive!

WHY DO YOU WATCH HOME AND AWAY?

Jen Till recently asked this question on the Summer Bay Courier mailing list to try and compile the top ten reasons why. Those of you not on the list can mail me and I'll send the answers to Jen. Thanks a lot, especially to Jen!

CORRECTION!!

In issue two I mentioned that in England we are three months behind Australia with Home And Away. However, over the Christmas break in Oz we have caught up and are now only 4 weeks behind!

I won't make a point of correcting mistakes or I'd be here for ages listing how many different ways people have spelt Marilyn (sic?) in the last three issues!!!

Donald and Marilyn
Now, Marilyn, I've told you how to spell your name!

TRIVIA ANSWER

The answer to issue two's trivia question, the character pictured was Nick Parrish. Correct answers were received from ADRIAN MURPHY, MUM, ADELE, KERRY, CHARLEY PARK, KIRSTEN WILLETT, ALAN SHADE, RYAN WEBSTER

JEN TILL guessed he was called David. That wasn't a bad guess because Nick's fiancee Lucinda had a brother called David (played by Guy Pierce, Mike from Neighbours) who was killed in a car crash caused by Karen Dean!

KERRY had such a long answer I thought I'd include it all: His name is Nick Parrish. He was the local policeman who was living with Donald when Shane first arrived in town from the city. He was involved in a love triangle storyline with Lou (played by Dee Smart) and her old boyfriend Ryan who flew into town to get her back. I don't remeber who she left with - was it Nick or Ryan? Was that why Nick left? My problem with him is that he never returned for Shane's funeral. How tacky was that?

I also received a correct answer to issue one's trivia from BEX, literally five minutes after I uploaded issue two with the list of correct answers! CHARLEY PARK also got it right but too late! Thanks anyway!

NEW TRIVIA QUESTION

Well, I thought you might have got a little fed up of guessing who's in the photo so this issue has an entirely different question...

Which two characters originally set up the Bayside Diner?

The clue for this one is the fridge scene! That should make sense to you if you know! Send your answers as soon as possible and as usual those who get it right will be listed in the next issue!
