'"Do you jive Marilyn?" "I don't know!"'
EDITORIAL!
Hello and welcome to issue #4 of Summer Bay News. I've been told
that you enjoy my short 'editorial' at the beginning. Alan Shade
says its nice to have a summary of whats in the newsletter. Well,
there are the results of the second opinion poll which are quite
interesting as one character has taken a rather large lead. It just
happens to be my favourite character ever but don't go accusing me
of rigging it, I kept to three votes and they were all for different
characters. This just shows that this character is an all time
favourite! Also in this issue there's a lot of opinions about
Donald's mother and even some more about Donald! And to top it all
there's a rather amusing top ten list. However, I have no top ten
lists or profiles left!! PLEASE send them, along with everything
else to this address...
[email protected]
This issue's quote come from Isobel when she first arrived at
Don's town house and got Rebecca playing the piano and Marilyn
jiving! Well, what a lot has happened since issue 3! In England
Jenna arrived on the scene. When Curtis saw her he had a flashback
and saw Laura's death. This was a bit pathetic as ITV (TV station in
England) cut this entire scene out when it was first shown. More
about that later! And of course in Australia (I'm going on what I've
been told here!) there was that dramatic episode in which Rebecca
and Marilyn jumped out of the plane, Donald saved Marilyn, Pippa got
her memory back and Kelly left! Well, I'll have more to say at the
end, but here's issue 4...
OPINION POLL #2 RESULTS
Bobby Simpson 20%
Morag Bellingham 6%
Lynn Davenport 6%
Shane Parrish 6%
Lance Smart 6%
Adam Cameron 4%
Dodge 4%
Sgt. Chris Hail 4%
Ben Lucini 4%
Greg Marshall 4%
Carly Morris 4%
Damien Roberts 4%
Kelly Watson 4%
So, bobby is the clear winner. Alan Shade and I have been
discussing Bobby. We think it is such a shame that she was 'killed
off' because Nicolle Dickson obviously wanted to return, otherwise
she would never have filmed that fridge scene. If Bobby had been
left alive she could have come back for more than two minutes and
met up with all her old friends.
Here are some long replies I had about the poll:
WILLIAM McDONALD: OK, First, I would like Dodge back. Dodge comes
back to Summer Bay and kills Jesse McGregor. 2. Sgt Chris Hail. He
is reinstated as the Summer Bay police sergeant. His name is
cleared. He launches an investigation into an old case where an
unknown person has been killing old ladies, and Jesse is found to be
the No.1 suspect. This lands Jesse in jail for life. The authorities
find something out about Jesse we never knew before - before he came
to Summer Bay, Jesse was a serial killer and most of his victims
were elderly. Jesse's evidence against Chris Hail is found to be all
a pack of lies. 3. Greg Marshall comes back to Summer Bay and takes
Sam away for good.
JEN TILL: ok, my answer to who i would like back...i want ruth,
alfs daughter back..my fav episodes of all time come from the love
triangle between her, frank and bobby...bring frank back too :} as
embarassing as it is,i actually bought a home and away book that was
about the episodes where ru had her baby....did any one else ever
invest in these books based on the series??
KERRY BARKER: There are many characters I would like to asee
return. The three iwould like to see the most would be Carley & Ben
(who married and moved to Perth) and their little baby, and Lyn.
Carley & Lyn were two of the original foster children that Tom and
Pippa had when they moved to thebay. I'd like to know where their
lives have gone since leaving the Bay. We occassionally hear a
mention of Carley & Ben but the first reference to Lyn was when
Sally was showing Pippa photos in the hospitalto help with her
memory.
EDITOR: Alan Shade wanted to hear what my choices were. Ok, well
Bobby Simpson was my all time favourite character, as I'm sure you
have realised by now, so she was obviously one of them! Another was
Lynn Davenport. I don't really remember her much but as she was the
first to leave it would be nice to see her reaction to how much
things have changed. My third choice was Morag Bellingham. She was a
horrible person but a very interesting character. Home And Away
could do with another old 'bag' like her!
ISOBEL DU PRÉ
BEX DOWNEY: Isobel couldn't be anymore ridiculous than she is.
Why on earth did they hire Shirley from A country Practice to
impersonate an English accent! It's completely preposterous to
someone like myself who lives in England.
KERRY BARKER: I think the character of Donald Fisher's mother was
great but Lorrae Desmond's portrayal of the role was a shocker!!!!
She was worse than anamateur. Shirley Gilroy (Lorrae's character in
'A Country Practice')would role in her grave if she was to see that
effort. I thought it was extremely embarressing.
Isobel is dying of Cancer. Rebecca found her pills in her bag and
confronted her with it.
ADELE: I like Isobel. I reakon she'd be the same if Donald wasn't
married toMarilyn. But she would have never come if Marilyn wasn't
there 'cause sheinvited her to see Donald.
ALAN SHADE: I think she is a bit wierd personally. I don't really
like hercharacter, she is far to over the top and la-de-da for my
liking. I feltshe was a bit harsh when she spoke to Donald about
Alan and Bobby aswell...she is not a very understanding mother. I
don't blame Donald for being a bit upset about her. But, maybe
she'll improve...I often findthat I don't like a character at first
and then I eventually come to like them (for example, Teigan).
JEN TILL: ok, well Donald's mother..I think Rebecca's assessment
of her as a tornado is spot on..just like an older version of
marrylin actually which ithink fits in well with the whole
donald/marrylin affair..a bit of background as to why on earth he
would go for someone like marrylin in the first place..i guess she
could be seen as a bit over the top and therefore annoying..but
there r really people like that out there so why not in Summer
Bay???!!!
WILLIAM McDONALD: Silly old woman... May be funny at times, but
it sux how she ran that drama class which got Liam and Stephanie
kissing and the way she could pretend tohave a teenage "romance"
with Bert. I woulda thought by the time someone was HALF their age,
they would have grown out of the "kiddy romance" stage.
DONALD FISHER
I've certainly started something big asking what you think about
Donald Fisher. Will the replies still be coming in issue #50?!
WILLIAM McDONALD: I'll comment on Don Fisher: I wish he found a
better wife than Marilyn. She's so silly... She makes him look like a
joke rather than a serious headmaster. I also feel sorry for Don,
for having a mother as silly as Isobel. (Although I did find a
*couple* of things funny, like when Isobel rode that motorbike past
him).
ALAN SHADE: I've just remembered I actually like Don and Maz
being together, ohwell, they just couldn't be a soap couple without
having at least twoaffairs each - a stable relationship just does
not make good TV in myopinion!

THE WORLD OF HOME AND AWAY!
Here's some info about Home And Away in other countries from
Nicholas_UK.
Neighbours is called Naeborn in norway and Grannar in sweden,
Home and Away is called Borte Bra!
I dont think they are using the new theme tune on H&A yet, I
think it changed shortly after Bobbys ghost came for the day, well
it did on the Irish TV, Donna is still in it on TV2 so it should
change in a few weeks.
TRIVIA ANSWER
The answer to #3's trivia question is Bobby Simpson and Ailsa
Stewart originally set up the Bayside Diner. Correct answers came
from BEX DOWNEY, KERRY BARKER, WILLIAM McDONALD, ALAN SHADE, JUDI,
HELEN JONES and GRANDMA.
RYAN WEBSTER guessed it was Tom and Pippa Fletcher. Not bad as
Ailsa, Tom and Pippa talked about setting up a cafe in episode 1 and
Pippa still bakes for the Diner!
GRANDMA sent a correct answer to #2's trivia, the person in the
photo was Nick Parrish.
NEW TRIVIA QUESTION
Here's one to get you thinking! Can you name all four of the
Stewart brothers/sisters? The clue for this one is the first letters
of their names - A, C, M and B. But remember that the females have
different surnames now. If you know, send your answer to the normal
address.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT?
Well, here's a new idea for Summer Bay News that you will
hopefully all reply to and have fun with. The idea is that there is
a question that you can invent a funny answer to. As I have
previously mentioned Laura's death scene was cut out in England a
couple of years ago but they showed it in full in Curtis' flashback.
How do you explain that? Please, don't be serious, funny answers
only! It'll be interesting to see what we can come up with! Send
them to... well, you know the address by now!
THAT'S ALL FOR NOW
Well, that wraps up another issue of Summer Bay News. Hope you've
enjoyed it. Remember to keep the e-mails coming in. I need profiles,
top ten lists, can you explain that? answers and trivia answers as
well. In issue 5 there'll be new poll and trivia questions, along
with whatever else you send me! General comments would be
appreciated too. Keep watching!

Summer Bay News is an unofficial newsletter and has not a lot to
do with Channel 7, as I'm sure you know, but I'm told you all read
this bit and are expecting something witty! Opinions published in
this newsletter belong solely to those who express them, so don't go
moaning at me if someone has said something you don't agree with
(for example if you like Isobel!) Wait, what am I saying? I love
Isobel's character! But I had better stick by this rule too, seeing
as I wrote it anyway. So I won't go moaning at the person who called
Isobel a silly old wo... I can't even bring myself to say it!! Is
that witty enough, Alan?
